George Fox University’s Center for Peace and Justice invites you to the 2017 John Woolman Peacemaking Forum on Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21. Our theme this year is “Peace: Personal and Global.”

This year, we welcome guest speaker Michelle Loyd-Paige, PhD, a professor of sociology and executive associate to the president for diversity and inclusion at Calvin College.

Tilikum is looking for 30 amazing college-aged individuals to serve on our 2017 summer staff. A summer at Tilikum offers you an incredible experience that will push you to grow in community, Christian living and service.

As a member of Tilikum’s summer staff, you will spend the day teaching kids about God in our beautiful lakeside environment.

Father Iván Pertiné will celebrate Mass in the Prayer Chapel at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday). Attendees are encouraged to stay for a time of conversation and food afterward in the Bruin Den. The Catholic campus group will cover the cost of your meal.

Fr. Iván is director of the Saint John Society, an international apostolate focused on engaging college students and young adults and energizing their faith in Christ.

The Emerging Leaders Internship Program matches underrepresented students – first-generation students, low-income students, and students of color – with paid internships at top Portland companies. This summer, more than 70 companies will welcome interns in a variety of fields. Last year, 13 George Fox students were hired, and this year, it could be you!

You can learn how to be a candidate that gets noticed at a special event Tuesday, March 21, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The program runs June 1 through August, and interns will be paid at least $15 per hour for 30 to 40 hours of work a week. See the participating companies and positions on the ELI website, and apply before March 31. Graduating seniors are encouraged to apply.

Commencement is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, in Stoffer Family Stadium.

The undergraduate admissions office is seeking awesome students to work as interns with the admissions counselors and in coordinating events. This is a great opportunity to get professional internship experience without the long commute!

We are seeking energetic, personable and detailed-oriented candidates who seek academic credit or qualify for federal student employment.

Applications and job descriptions are currently available for the 2017-18 school year and can be picked up in the admissions office on the second floor of the Stevens Center. Applications must be returned to the admissions office no later than Monday, March 20, at 5 p.m.

Open Study Table will meet in Roberts 201 and 203 today and tomorrow (March 15-16). Open Study Table runs from 7 to 10 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and is available to all students.

General tutors are available, and a Bible tutor is present on Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m. Other than next week, the Study Table meets in Roberts 117.

In January 2018, selected George Fox students are traveling to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The Sundance festival is widely regarded as the most prestigious annual showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers.

Alongside the Sundance Festival, George Fox students will also be attending the Windrider Forum, a venue for conversations about the intersections of faith and film.

We will be attending during the final full week of January. The tentative dates are Jan. 21-27, 2018. Attending students will be required to notify professors in advance of anticipated absences, and create appropriate academic work plans. Personal costs for students will most likely range from $850 to $950 (not including food and incidentals), depending on airline and lodging costs.

You do NOT need to be a CMCO (cinematic arts) or communication major to attend. Applications from all full-time undergraduate students will be considered, but we will be limited to traveling with 10 to 12 selected students.

During the Spring 2018 semester, CMCO 285/485, a selected topics course, will be offered on “Independent Cinema,” and will connect to the Sundance trip experience. Students will have the option (NOT requirement) of registering for this course to receive credit connected to the Sundance and later semester experiences.

We are looking for individuals with an Achilles tendinopathy diagnosis or Achilles pain (in the middle of the tendon as opposed to heel) who are interested in improving their pain and function.

The study will involve a set workout routine, attending regular check-ups, and assessments of pain and function. The study will begin March 20, 2017.

Spring is coming soon, which means it’s time to knock off the rust and get some air in your tires. Bring your bike by the Engineering Innovation Center Maker Hub’s west door (facing the quad) between 5 and 7 p.m. this Monday, March 20, and have the Cycling Club help you get out riding again.
