We want to remind all of us about the expectations of living in a Christ-centered community that honors kindness, grace and civility as important values. Language and/or behavior that relies on stereotypes or is demeaning toward individuals or groups is absolutely unacceptable for George Fox students and employees, whether it occurs in person, through social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) or anonymously.

Violations of these expectations are taken very seriously by the university, especially when directed at another because of their race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion or disabilities. We want to remind everyone that George Fox has harassment, discrimination and bias-related incident policies that can be viewed at studenthandbook.georgefox.edu.

Any incidents of harassment, discrimination or bias should be reported immediately to the Office of Student Life. We would also encourage community members to hold one another accountable for what we say and do in this important area.

As the student activity center construction project continues, please respect the fence and stay out of the building and construction areas. Construction personnel only are allowed inside the fence. The safety of students, faculty, staff and guests is our highest priority.

Generally, work crews arrive around 6:30 a.m. and begin work on the site at 7 a.m. on weekdays. We apologize in advance for the noise, dust and inconvenience that accompanies projects such as this and ask for everyone’s patience as we anticipate this exciting new addition to campus!

This elite group of individuals represent the university to visiting students, through hosting lunches, campus tours, etc., and have a huge impact on recruiting incoming Bruins. The university pastors will be hosting a service of remembrance honoring Daniel Mellers, beloved friend and classmate who died on April 23, 2017. The service will be held today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101. All are welcome.

Do you enjoy building people up and helping them reach their full potential? Interested in being a mentor for kids in local elementary and middle schools? Then come to Little Bruins info sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday nights after Shalom and Vespers chapel.

Little Bruins is a mentoring program that pairs college students with kids in local elementary and middle schools. They meet one hour a week, play sports, work on homework, and build lasting relationships, full of impact in Christ’s name.

We meet Tuesdays at 9:20 p.m. in Canyon Commons and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Come tonight to learn more!

Commuters: Did you know that we provide lockers for you to store your personal belongings in between classes? The lockers are located in the FoxHole, on the lower level of Klages Center.

Contact the Student Life Office by emailing studentlife@georgefox.edu to rent a locker this year. The cost is a $10 deposit and will be returned to you once you return your key.

Mail Services is returning to its regular business hours this week. The new hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The forecast report states we are in for some hot weather over the several days. Please take a few minutes to read this information on staying safe during extreme heat.

• Canyon Commons (south door entrance) and Klages Center (Student Union Building) have 24/7 card access for all students.
• The Red Cross has several best practices for keeping safe and well during the heat.
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing. Avoid dark clothing.
• Slow down, stay in the shade and avoid extended time in the sun.
• If you must be in the sun, keep water with you.
• Find a cool place to stay during the heat of the day.
• For more information on what to do when temperatures rise, you may download the Red Cross Mobile App.
• Recognize the signs of heat exhaustion: leg cramps, flushed skin, dizziness, fainting, headache, excessive sweating without physical exertion
• Do not hesitate to contact 911 if you are experiencing heat-related symptoms.
