Fox and Friendsview is back! If you want to be a blessing to our elderly friends at Friendsview, come join in the fun this Monday, Feb. 5. Fox and Friendsview is a great way to build community and show the Friendsview retirees a good time every first Monday of the month.

Spring Life Groups get started on Feb. 11

Spring semester Life Groups are open! Life Groups provide an outlet for students to gather for a weekly time of discussion and prayer. Groups are all male, all female or coed, and meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes. Groups are facilitated by staff, faculty and other post-college leaders who love Jesus.

Spring groups meet for six weeks starting the week of Feb. 11 and concluding the week of March 18. Students can sign up using this link.

Social work majors: Mandatory advising sessions are coming up

If you are a declared social work major who is a freshman, sophomore or junior, you will need to attend one of two advising sessions, on either Tuesday, Feb. 27, or Wednesday, March 7. Freshmen, please plan to attend from 5 to 6 p.m., sophomores from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., and juniors from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please bring a tablet or laptop.

Friendsview Retirement Community is hosting a garage sale and would like to invite George Fox students to come out and take advantage of a special “half-off sale.”

Swing by today (Friday) or tomorrow (Saturday). The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. All items will be free for George Fox students after noon on Saturday, Feb.3. It will include furniture, clothing, household items and more.

In recognition of Black History Month, the university is hosting a special presentation, “Martin Luther King, Jr.: The Inner Life and Global Vision,” featuring Clayborne Carson, one of the nation’s most renowned scholars of King. The free lecture runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, in Room 101 of the Canyon Commons dining hall.

Carson is the Martin Luther King, Jr., Centennial Professor of History and the Ronnie Lott Founding Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Institute. He has devoted most of his professional life to the study of King and the movements King inspired. Carson’s scholarly publications have focused on African-American protest movements and political thought of the period after World War II.

In 1985, the late Coretta Scott King invited Carson to edit and publish the papers of Martin Luther King, Jr. Under Carson’s direction, the King Papers Project has produced seven volumes of The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Carson’s visit is being arranged through the Organization of American Historians. It is being cohosted by the Center for Peace and Justice and the Department of History, Sociology and Politics.

Nursing’s Kenya serve team hosting a can and bottle drive Feb. 10

All levels of dancers are invited to FoxHole tomorrow night

The Coast to Coast swing dance club is hosting a dance again tomorrow (Saturday) in the FoxHole. Bring your friends, bring your dancing shoes, and come to have fun and take a break. All levels of dancers are welcome. Beginners can learn the basics at 6:30 p.m., followed by intermediate dancers at 7 p.m. and social dancing at 7:30 p.m.

Questions about faith discussed Wednesdays in Alpha

Got questions about faith? Come participate in Alpha, a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. We will provide food, a video to watch and the opportunity for a conversation afterward. It will also give you a chance to meet new people and find a safe space to talk about this topic.

The program will run for 10 weeks, so come and invite your friends. Everyone is welcome. We’ll meet in Stevens 208 at 5 p.m. every Wednesday beginning today. This will count as a chapel elective, too.

Can we find common ground in our polarized world? Join us for an interfaith panel discussion highlighting practical ways in which the Abrahamic faiths are moving toward finding peace and unity across our political, cultural, and religious divides.

The seventh annual Circle of Peace Seminar is set from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, in Canyon Commons 101. Sharing the stage will be our brilliant speakers Rabbi David Kosak of Neveh Shalom in Portland, Arif Humayun, president and cofounder of Circle of Peace, and Paul Anderson, professor of biblical and Quaker Studies at George Fox.
