‘Be Heard’ on the 2018 student mixtape

Friday, February 9th, 2018

Calling all singers, bands, spoken word artists, and podcasters: The Student Mixtape Project is back, and we are passionate about giving George Fox students a chance to “Be Heard.”

Being a part of the mixtape only takes two simple steps:

  1. Fill out this survey so we can learn about who you are.
  2. If you would like a free hour of studio recording time, after the survey, we will send you an Excel sheet to sign up for your session. If your audio track is already mixed, please send it directly to Paige Patterson at ppatteson13@georgefox.edu.

Who are we?
The George Fox Student Mixtape Project is a collaborative student project that started back in the early 2000s. It was revamped last year through KFOX Radio to produce 400 student mixtapes that were given away on Dead Day. With the help of ASC, we plan to produce 800 free mixtapes for the student body featuring selected works and release the entirety of all submissions online.

Be a part of George Fox history, and “Be Heard.”

City will conduct work on Fulton Street on Tuesday

Thursday, February 8th, 2018

The city of Newberg will close off Fulton Street to one lane on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic, so expect major delays. Drivers are encouraged to use a different route, as the street will be one lane all day, starting at 7 a.m.

The closure will occur east of the Bauman parking lot entrance at the top of the hill, past Thomas Lane and the West Wheeler/LeShana parking lot entrance. Cars will be able to enter the Le Shana lot from the east entrance off Fulton Street. It is unclear if there will be access to the Wheeler Circle lot. Entrance to the Bauman parking lot will be unaffected.

Thank you for your patience as the city corrects an issue with their sewer line traveling across Fulton Street.

‘Fox @ the Fireside’ event Feb. 15 discusses ‘I am afraid’ exhibit

Wednesday, February 7th, 2018

Please join us for the university libraries’ inaugural ”Fox @ the Fireside” event on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Murdock Learning Resource Center.

Gather around the fireplace with coffee and light refreshments to hear artist Jennifer Lichtenberg discuss her process and answer questions about her “I am afraid” art exhibit on display for Black History Month beginning Feb. 9.

About the exhibit
During the 2016-17 academic year, the Graduate School of Counseling staff and faculty committed themselves to a book group, reading through and processing the work of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me. In the book, Coates addresses what it means to inhabit an African American body in today’s America. Jennifer created “I am afraid” in response to Coates’ work.

Check out additional resources on Black History Month and Dr. Clayborne Carson’s lecture on the “Fox @ the Fireside” LibGuide.
