Catalyst Alternative High School in Newberg is looking for eager mentors for students. Students come to Catalyst for a variety of reasons, including anxiety, depression and social pressures. Open auditions set tomorrow for comedy short film

Want to be in the most-talked-about film of this year? Ever wanted to be a camp counselor? Have a slightly embarrassing love of soft tacos? Come join us!

Auditions for the comedic short film directed by Jake Thiessen will be held at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) the Cinematic Arts building.

We are looking for two college-age male actors, two college-age female actors, one female around the age of 30, and five elementary/middle school-age kids. If you fit any of these categories, please try out!

Passport Days arrive this week

This Thursday and Friday, Sept. 20-21, a U.S. Postal Service representative will be on the Newberg campus for Passport Days. They will be available to take your photo and assist you with applying for or renewing your passport. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of Bauman Auditorium both days.

To calculate how much your passport will be, visit this link. You can pay by either check or cash; credit cards will not be accepted. You will need to bring a valid photo ID, birth certificate and Social Security card.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 20,  and running for four weeks, you’ll learn strategies to manage and overcome your stress and anxiety. Space is limited to 15 people. Classes meet from 6 to 7 p.m. each week in the Health and Counseling Center’s classroom.

Guest Dreisbach presents Constitution Day address tonight

The campus community is invited to a free Constitution Day address, “The Bible and the American Constitutional Tradition,” by guest speaker Daniel L. Dreisbach tonight (Monday) at 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Dreisbach is a professor in the School of Public Affairs at American University. He earned a doctor of philosophy degree from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia. He has authored or edited 10 books, including, most recently, Reading the Bible with the Founding Fathers.

Later this week, a second talk, “Liberty, License, and Virtuous Self-Government in John Milton’s Writings,” will be presented by David Urban, an English professor from Calvin College, on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. Urban has written and edited numerous works about Milton.

PT team conducting research on bunions
