Looking for something fun to do this week? Come watch Ant-Man or hang out in the Hadlock Student Center tomorrow (Thursday) from 8 to 11 p.m. Popcorn and snacks will be provided.

Plan also to attend Fall Fest at Heiser Farms on Friday, Oct. 26, from 7 to 10 p.m. Pumpkins, a corn maze and food are included. Sign up here for a bus ride and ticket.

Lastly, it’s not too late to be considered to be a part of the Lip Sync competition on Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m.! Compete for a $500 prize and make memories with your friends. This is event is always fun! Do it!

Halloween is just around the corner, so join the Swing Dance Club for an early celebration this Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the FoxHole.

We will be playing Halloween swing dance music, so come dressed up in your Halloween costume and maybe have the chance to win a prize. Have fun eating candy and playing new swing dance games!

Listen to guest physical therapy doctor speak on exercise and chronic disease

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Kim E. Eppen, physical therapist and clinical specialist at the University of Iowa, on from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Canyon Commons 101.

Dr. Eppen will present the topic “Exercise Prescription in Chronic Disease.” The primary objectives for this lecture are to identify the relationship between inactivity and chronic disease, discuss physical activity guidelines for “general health benefits,” and discuss the role of physicians and other healthcare providers in assessing and prescribing physical activity/exercise for prevention and/or management of chronic disease.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be served.

Join the Photography Club’s first outing this Sunday

Photography Club’s first outing will be happening this Sunday, Oct. 28. We will be visiting the Holcomb Creek Trestle outside of Hillsboro and the Portland Japanese Garden. We will be carpooling from the George Fox campus. We will be meeting in the circular parking lot beside Pennington and Klages and leaving around 10 a.m. We plan to return to campus around 3 p.m.

Snacks will be provided, but we highly suggest bringing a lunch or money to pay for lunch. The Japanese Garden also has an admission fee of $13.50 for students. Please bring a camera or your phone with you for taking photos, as well as a rain jacket and boots.

If you are interested in studying abroad at a Veritas study abroad location, come by the study abroad office in the Intercultural Resource Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for a chance to connect with our representative, get information and ask questions. Pizza and drinks will be provided!

Veritas program locations include Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, London, France, Rome, Scotland, Spain and others. Students studying abroad at Veritas locations in the spring of 2019 are welcome to attend as well.

Join Fencing Club tonight in the Hadlock Student Center

The Fencing Club is open to all levels of experience in fencing, from novice to advanced. The purpose of the club is to have fun learning how to fence and to get a chance to have fun every Wednesday sword fighting.

A group of students within the NURS 401 Community Health class has partnered with the Bruin Community Pantry (BCP) to assess the needs regarding food insecurity on our campus. We would appreciate your feedback and input!

The survey should take about five to 10 minutes to complete. The feedback we receive will be used to better understand the community population and needs to be met. If there are needs and appropriate recommendations made, it will be shared with those overseeing the pantry on campus. We also encourage you to share this survey with other peers.

For the purposes of this survey, food insecurity is defined by the Department of Agriculture as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active and healthy life.

Plan to join weekend retreat with your significant other

The Office of Commuter Life will be hosting a relationship retreat Saturday, Feb. 9, through Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. The retreat is open to undergraduate married, engaged or seriously dating couples (one person per couple must be an undergraduate George Fox student). There will be a small fee per couple for a weekend-long retreat on the Oregon Coast.

The second part of the retreat is a “Great Date Night” scheduled for Sunday, March 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. Mark your calendar now for both events and save the dates if you hope to attend. More information will be coming in the months to come.

This Thursday, Oct. 25, take a fun break from homework to come meet and engage with our retired neighbors just across the street at Friendsview. Ping pong, billiards, shuffleboard, a variety of board and card games, and puzzles will be available!

Final ‘The Government Inspector’ shows run this week

The George Fox theatre department continues its fall comedy The Government Inspector this week. Come join us for a tale of mistaken identity, chaos and hilarity (note: the production does have mature themes).

Student tickets are free on Thursday, Oct. 25. Bring your student ID to the door. Employees are provided with one complimentary ticket for any of the shows. Open captioning will be available the last two shows, on Oct. 27 and 28.

The show runs in Wood-Mar Auditorium Oct. 25-27 at 7:30 p.m., and will also include a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 28. Reserve your seat online and bring your George Fox ID with you to show at the door. You may also purchase additional tickets online. Tickets are also available for pick-up at the box office in the Bruin Store (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

Want to donate blood? Sign up for American Red Cross blood drive

George Fox University School of Nursing and the American Red Cross are hosting an upcoming blood drive. The need for blood is constant, and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds.

Interested in working for Commuter Life spring semester? Apply to be a commuter assistant

Commuter Life is hiring a commuter assistant who will focus on large-event programming for the spring 2019 semester. If you are interested in working to build authentic relationships among commuters, consider applying to be a commuter assistant. Commuter assistants will help plan programs, build relationships, and care for commuter students.

Enter debate competition for chance to win Amazon gift card

All are invited to participate in a debate competition known as the “Policy Debate” on campus on Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Hoover lobby. The team check-in, opening ceremony and coaching session will take place between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The first debate round will commence at 1:45 p.m., and the final will finish at 8 p.m.

This event will focus on chosen topics that teams of four will debate on over the course of three preliminary rounds, plus a final round. Participants will be expected to attend the full event, including debates, meals and ceremonies. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served to all participants throughout the day.

No previous experience in a debate is required. Each individual person on the winning team will receive $125 Amazon gift cards. Smaller amounts will be given to other participants who place lower.
