Hadlock Student Center offers spring break discounts on gear

Are you adventuring for spring break and need some gear to be comfy in the outdoors? The Hadlock Rental Center can help you out without breaking the bank.

Rentals of $10 or more will be eligible for a 20 percent discount from Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 31. This means a weekend kayak or paddleboard rental is $16 and single-day snowshoe, trekking pole or gaiter rentals are all under $10. Reserve gear at the Hadlock Student Center front desk or online.

Sign up for April 6 frisbee tournament

The Bruin Ultimate Frisbee Club is hosting a George Fox-only hat tournament on Saturday, April 6, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Austin Sports Complex.

A hat tournament is where teams are randomly chosen from a hat and play a round-robin Frisbee tournament. This is open to all students and faculty, regardless of previous experience. The goal is to have fun, build community, and play some Ultimate Frisbee! Sign up here.

Please note: Bring both a light- and dark-colored shirt to distinguish between teams. The club will provide water and probably have bananas; if you want more snacks or Gatorade, make sure to bring it. Finally, we will be selling club discs for $10 each, so bring some cash to get a fancy new Frisbee.

NSLS induction preparation deadline is April 5

NSLS members: Please note that the deadline for completing the four steps prior to induction is Friday, April 5, at midnight. 

You will need to complete orientation, leadership training day, three speaker broadcasts, and three success networking team meetings before being inducted. If you are curious about what you still need, check your member portal or contact NSLS@georgefox.edu.

Induction will be Monday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. We look forward to inducting as many members as possible!

The NSLS is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. Click here for more information.

Areas around Crisman Crossing and Canyon Commons will close next week

From Monday, March 25, through Wednesday, March 27, the grounds team will be doing tree work to remove hazards around Canyon Commons.

The Canyon Commons Plaza will be closed as well as the asphalt path between Canyon Commons and the Hess Creek canyon wall. Additionally, the Crisman Crossing bridge will be closed for short periods of time over the three days. Please plan for delays if you rely on the bridge to take you across campus.

Take your bike home during spring break

Campus Public Safety asks that if you aren’t riding your bike very much, please take it home during spring break.

There will be no bike storage allowed on campus during the summer unless you are working as a campus summer worker. If you want to ride your bike during the last five weeks of school, please put your bike in your dorm room or apartment to avoid tempting a potential thief.

Submission deadline for ‘The Wineskin’ is tomorrow

Remember to send in your submissions for The Wineskin by tomorrow (Friday) in order for your work to be considered for our spring issue!

There is no theme for this semester – just send us your best poems, stories, essays and artwork. The editors are open to a wide range of styles and subject matter, but we are particularly looking for work that pushes boundaries and surprises us with its artistic approach and perspective of the world.

Submission guidelines:

  • Poetry and prose manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document, in Times New Roman 12-point font. Please title your pieces and remove your name from the document.
  • Limit all prose to 1,000 words and send no more than five poems per submission.
  • For artwork: Files should be named as the title of your piece followed by your name. Please remove all watermarks from your work.

PT program’s Africa service trip hosts banquet and auction fundraiser

This summer the university’s physical therapy department is taking a medical service trip to Ghana and Uganda to serve a diverse and less privileged community.

To help raise funds for the trip, we are hosting a banquet on Saturday, April 6, at 5 p.m. in Canyon Commons. Tickets are $25 and include dinner and a silent auction.
