RSVP to join the business students and professors at the business department Christmas party from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Hadlock student lounge.

Business Santa Claus will be there to see if you’ve been a good student this year. There will be a hot chocolate bar, holiday-themed games, a photo booth, and holiday karaoke! If you bring two non-perishable goods, you will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

Come to Holiday Hangout on Friday

Don’t miss the final Student Activities events of the semester! Take a study break and stop by the Holiday Hangout this Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in the Stevens atrium for delicious sweet treats, a tater tot bar, an Elf showing, pictures with Santa and Pennington, games, and Christmas karaoke.

Also, plan to attend Winter Formal on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. at Leftbank Annex in Portland. The dance won’t be a swing dance this year. Come ready to dance your stress away for a few hours and enjoy some of the best hors d’oeuvres you’ve had in a while.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 per person or in the Bruin Store. Transportation is available.

Finally, Late Night Breakfast is set for Monday, Dec. 9, at 10 p.m. in Canyon Commons. Everyone’s favorite dead day study break features food and plenty of loud music and antics. Don’t miss the fun! Commuters: We’ve got you covered on this one, so plan to attend.

Join exercise study

Students, staff and faculty who are not currently performing weight training exercises are wanted for a study. Subjects are needed for a blood flow restriction exercise study. 

Participants will be allocated to either a BFR and exercise group or to an exercise alone group. Participants will be asked to exercise two times a week for about 20 minutes each for eight weeks. Those who complete the study will get $20 and a pizza party.

Join next month’s snowshoe trip

Outdoor Rec (OREC) is offering an overnight snowshoe trip Jan. 9-10 that will head to the Mountain View Shelter near Santiam Pass.

This is a fantastic opportunity to spend time outside with others while learning about backcountry travel and camping in a winter environment. The best part is that we will have access to the shelter to stay warm and play games.

Want an internship at a top Portland company this summer? Then come to an info session to get all the details and learn how you can put together a winning application. The info session will be tomorrow (Tuesday) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in EHS 125.

The Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) program connects talented students of color with paid internships at companies and organizations throughout the Portland area. You will do real work and develop practical skills that will launch your career. Last summer, 120 interns were placed at 76 partner companies, including 10 George Fox students.

Current students of color, and even ones graduating in December or May, are encouraged to apply. Opportunities exist for almost all majors. The application is open until Friday, Jan. 31

Canyon Commons’ hours of operation have changed for Thanksgiving weekend. They are as follows:

  • Thursday, Dec. 28 – Brunch 10:30-11 a.m.; Dinner 4-4:30 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30 – Brunch 10:30-11 a.m.; Dinner 5-5:45 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 1 – Brunch 10:30-11 a.m.; Dinner 5-7 p.m.

Consider taking your bike home for the break

Do you have a bike on campus? If you are not using your bike, please consider taking it home this week and bringing it back over spring break when the weather improves.

If that is not a possibility, then please remove your bike from the outside bike racks and keep it in your dorm or apartment during the break so that it isn’t a temptation to thieves. Always keep your bike locked up, preferably with a U-lock.

The university’s baseball and softball programs are looking for people who are aspiring to work/interested in analytics to join our program as managers this spring.

This is a non-paid position but is a great opportunity to get experience with the technology used in Major League Baseball and graduate with years of college baseball or softball analytics experience. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting all forms of data and analytics in relation to our programs, and assisting coaches and players with practice and game film. It is limited to five spots.
