The 2020 George Fox Political Civility Project continues, looking for ways to counteract increasing polarization and alienation in American politics.
This Monday, Oct. 19, professors Mark Hall and Phil Smith will debate about whom we should vote for in the U.S. presidential election. Attendees will be invited to use the prototype Political Civility inventory to assess levels of civility in the debate. They will also hear a brief report on how the vice-presidential debate, and perhaps others, fared in terms of civility.
Attendees will also be given a chance to comment on what next steps our university should take to promote peacemaking in politics.
The event is open to the public via Zoom (link available later this week). Students are invited to attend the event live in Bauman Auditorium.
In compliance with social distancing regulations, when the room reaches its 100-person COVID capacity, any others who arrive will be directed to join those attending (including any off-campus guests) via Zoom.

The Newberg and Portland campuses will be closed tomorrow (Friday) for the mid-semester holiday. All offices, libraries and bookstores will be closed.

The flu shots are offered to employees and students. There will be no appointments; the shots will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis, but we ask that we do not congregate in large groups.
Regence and Kaiser health insurance are accepted. For other health insurance insurance, see this list of all the insurance groups they accept without prepayment. Family members can participate, but please note that they vaccinate children over 9 years of age with parental consent. All Kaiser members have to be 18 and over.
For those without an accepted insurance, the cost is $30. They accept cash or check. No debit or credit cards.
We expect that they will be able to administer about 25 to 30 vaccinations per hour, so please come prepared:

Q: Does the flu shot protect against COVID-19?
A: No. The flu shot doesn’t protect against COVID-19. However, the flu vaccine can help reduce your risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death. If fewer people get the flu, care teams can focus their time and resources on providing COVID-19 patients with the care they need.
Q: Should a flu vaccine be given to someone with suspected of confirmed COVID-19?
A: No. If you tested positive for COVID-19, or believe you might have it, it’s best to wait before getting a flu shot. This will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 to anyone in the flu shot location, including other patients and healthcare teams.

Did you know that the Maker Hub has a sublimation printer and heat press for making T-shirts? We are hosting a T-shirt making event on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Maker Hub.
This event is open to all students. All you need to do is bring a design and a T-shirt. As long as your design is readable by an Adobe product or Inkscape, it should work. Also, make sure that the T-shirt you bring is a light color and at least 50% polyester (the more polyester, the better).
Drop by any time in the window from 3 to 6 p.m. next Wednesday and we’ll help you make your T-shirt!

The Intercultural Resource Center is hosting the annual Voices Conference at George Fox (fully online) starting tomorrow (Friday) at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. SpIL credit will be offered!
This multicultural leadership conference is open for people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our vision is to create space for students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in meaningful conversations about being multicultural leaders in an increasingly diverse society.
This year, well-known leaders and speakers Leroy and Donna Barber, Robert Chao Romero, Sunia Gibbs, and Kathy Khang will be leading virtual workshops and discussions regarding social justice, leadership and diversity.
