The Academic Resource Center (ARC) and Disability and Accessibility Services (formerly DSO) have come together under one roof! The entire Learning Support Services (LSS) team is now located on the first floor of the Murdock Library. If you’ve been to the ARC, you know where we are.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a Hydro Flask prize drawing for all students as part of our rolling open house. The LSS open house will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19 – Friday, Jan. 29. Stop by to enter to win a 32 oz. Hydro Flask, get acquainted with the space and say hi! We look forward to seeing you.
We are also pleased to announce that the “Disability Services Office†name has been changed to Disability and Accessibility Services (DAS). We hope this new name will more accurately reflect the work we do both to serve students with disabilities and to increase accessibility across campus, including:
- Physical building accessibility
- Universal design for learning in courses
- Education and advocacy across campus
- Opportunities for students to connect around diagnoses, conditions, or symptoms that impact their lives
You can contact Disability and Accessibility Services at das@georgefox.edu or visit georgefox.edu/das for information. Our old email and web addresses still work.
Please contact any of the Learning Support Services team if we can be of service to you:

The Hadlock Student Center’s outdoor equipment rental center is currently open for reservations and pick-ups! In the winter, the most popular rentals are snowshoes, trekking poles, gaiters, backpacks, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags.
Students, staff and faculty must reserve equipment online in advance and select a time and day they would like to check the equipment out and a time that they can bring it back.
The rental center is located in the Hadlock Student Center and is one of the services we are able to offer, uninterrupted, using this reservation system. Please note that the Hadlock Student Center is closed and that walk-in service is not an option during this time.
For rental center pricing and to make a reservation, please visit this webpage. Have questions? Please email studentcenter@georgefox.edu.

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students†section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on this website.
Note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.
For more information, contact the student life office (studentlife@georgefox.edu).

Last semester, George Fox had zero COVID-19 cases among our residential students from August until November. The pandemic is more widespread at this point, but we are determined to take steps to keep it off our campus. One important step is reducing opportunities for exposure. Residential students are asked to stay on campus until March 15, with the exception of essential travel, off-campus jobs, and visiting outdoor locations.

Campus Public Safety would like to remind the George Fox community of a few helpful safety tips. Because, while the Newberg campus is located in what is considered a generally safe location, we know that, unfortunately, crimes and emergencies can occur in any location and at any time of day.
We encourage everyone to program Campus Public Safety’s phone number into your cell phone right now so that it is available in case you need it. We are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week: 503-554-2090.
The following are some of the reasons why you may want to give us a call:
- If you feel unsafe, please call our office so that we can escort you to your destination. Safety escorts are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
- In case of an emergency, first, call 911, and then call CPS; we can coordinate with emergency first responders to help direct them to your location.
- Roadside assistance: We are happy to assist in unlocking your car or giving you a jump start if your battery is dead.
- Locked out of your room? Campus policy requires that you first try calling a RA from your living area if you are locked out of your room. If you are unable to reach an RA, then you are welcome to call CPS and we will make our best effort to respond as soon as we are available.
- Reporting crimes and accidents: If you need to report a crime or accident, we can connect you to the proper George Fox department or off-campus agency to complete and file a report.
A victim of a crime is never at fault and should not be blamed for his or her actions. For those who would like to know what precautions they can take in order to reduce the risk of victimization, we offer the following tips:
- Let someone know where you are going, your expected travel time, and how long you plan on being in that location.
- If you are running or walking in the evening, wear bright or reflective clothing to make yourself more visible to drivers and to help someone spot you faster in case of an emergency.
- Also, if you are running or walking in the evening, go with someone or a group of people you trust. (If you choose this option, be sure to wear the appropriate face coverings.) Stay in well-lit, highly visible areas. Stay in familiar areas and avoid shortcuts.
- Be aware of your surroundings and walk with purpose. Distractions like using your cell phone while walking can make you particularly vulnerable.
- In regards to electronics, be sure that your phone is charged before traveling. Wear only one earbud while you walk and keep your volume low.
- Do not leave valuable items in your car in an open view. Park in well-lit areas where it will be safe for you to return to at night. Take note of where you park so that you can easily locate your car again.
Questions? Call Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 or email Elrike Shaw at eshaw@georgefox.edu. Campus Public Safety officers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year!
