Important vehicle registration information

Thursday, August 20th, 2020

While all commuters and graduate students were automatically charged for a parking permit through Student Accounts, all student drivers still need to register to receive their parking permits. This isn’t done automatically because we don’t know which vehicle you might be bringing to campus.

After you have registered your vehicle through MyGeorgeFox, please print out the temporary permit from the link in your confirmation email and place that on your dashboard. This will serve as your permit until your permit sticker arrives in the mail in the next three weeks. If your permit does not arrive after three weeks, please contact our office.

A parking brochure will arrive with your permit, but until then, be sure to check the Campus Public Safety webpage to learn where you can park. There have been some parking changes. The 99W lot is no longer available for commuters, however there is additional commuter parking in the Bauman parking lot.

Parking facing the wrong way or blocking driveways and mailboxes can result in hefty fines from the police department. Please be courteous as you park.

Additionally, Campus Public Safety is not responsible for parking information you receive from anyone but us. Drivers are responsible for knowing the George Fox parking policies and adhering to them.

Questions? Contact Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 or email Elrike Shaw at eshaw@georgefox.edu.

Title IX course required of students this year

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020

In May 2020, the U.S. Department of Education released new regulations governing campus sexual assault under Title IX, the law prohibiting sex discrimination at federally funded institutions. You can find these updates on our Title IX website.

These changes have been reflected in the course that we offer through EverFi: Sexual Assault Prevention for:

  • Graduate students (including DPS)
  • Undergraduate students
  • Student-athletes

Implemented in 2013, the Campus Save Act requires colleges and universities to provide primary prevention and awareness programs regarding sexual misconduct and related offenses to their campus community.

This year, all students will be required to complete this new course. You should be sent an invitation email from the student life office with all the information you need. Please read the welcome letter carefully so that you understand what is expected of you, and if you have any concerns, what your options are.

If you don’t see it in your in-box, please check your spam folder. If you do NOT receive an email by Aug. 31, 2020, please email Jere Witherspoon at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jere.

Student Accounts: Two refund tips

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020

With the academic year fast approaching, the Office of Student Accounts has a couple of refund tips …

Refund Tip #1: Have you granted “Financial Aid Permission?”
If you have not completed a “Financial Aid T4 Permission Form,” please understand that federal funds cannot pay course fees and fines without your permission. This may result in an unpaid charge and a credit balance at the same time. When that happens, we have to audit the account to be sure the refund is valid. That takes time and slows down refunds significantly.

To grant “permission,” please sign into My.GeorgeFox.edu and go to your task tile or follow the steps at this link. The federal rule is that you complete this before your financial aid disburses. If your loans have already disbursed for the semester, you will need to complete two steps:

  1. Complete the form, and
  2. Email studentaccountrefunds@georgefox.edu this week to authorize us to pre-date the effective date of your permission form.

Refund Tip #2: Participation in Student Account Direct Deposit is now Mandatory!
If you have not signed up for Student Account Direct Deposit (DD), you must do so immediately.  (Employment and Student Accounts DD enrollments are two entirely separate processes.) Please sign into My.GeorgeFox.edu and go to your task tile to complete this requirement. Failure to do so this week will result in refund delays.

Contact our office at studentaccounts@georgefox.edu with any questions.

Online AlcoholEdu course required this year

Sunday, August 16th, 2020

Undergraduates enrolled this fall will be required to complete the AlcoholEdu course. As George Fox does not allow students to consume alcohol while enrolled, you may be wondering why we are requiring it.

The university has its current policy because we are seeking to create an environment that is safe and optimized for student learning. Unfortunately, there is a lot of data associating college student use of alcohol with negative outcomes (alcohol abuse, binge drinking, underage drinking, poor academic performance, etc.).

This past year, the university’s board of trustees affirmed the current policy and supported the university’s desire to provide education about alcohol awareness and prevention, which is the reason we are asking students to complete the course.

Through it, you will gain an understanding of the mental and physical effects of alcohol, as well as how to engage in bystander intervention. This online education will empower you to make well-informed decisions about issues that affect your years at George Fox and beyond.

In the next few weeks, you will receive an email from EverFi and George Fox with an invitation to complete part one of AlcoholEdu.

Please read the welcome letter carefully so that you understand what is expected of you and contact the student life office if you have any questions (studentlife@georgefox.edu).

Alumni business directory will be unveiled this fall

Sunday, August 16th, 2020

This fall, the Office of Alumni Relations is creating an alumni-owned business directory to promote and support Bruin businesses in the area (West Coast).

The directory will be listed on the alumni website, included in all communications, and highlighted on social media. The purpose is to keep alumni-owned businesses in front of the broader alumni community so together we can support each other through this COVID-19 pandemic.

Please refer alumni-owned businesses by filling out this form, or share this link with business owners. Please share this opportunity with as many alumni as you can. Together we Stand Tall!

Thanks!

Contact Sara Reamy with any questions you may have (sreamy@georgefox.edu or ext. 2118).

Check website to get dining guidelines for the fall

Thursday, August 13th, 2020

Bon Appetit is excited to welcome you to back to campus this fall! As you’d expect, we’re implementing some serious sanitation and service measures to ensure you can dine with us as safely and comfortably as possible.

While COVID-19 safety is a key priority, it isn’t our only one. We still believe that food has an important role to play in individual wellness and in building culture and community at George Fox. Our chefs will still be cooking from scratch, using fresh local and seasonal ingredients that meet our sustainability standards.

More information about dining can be found on this webpage. As more information unfolds, updates will be communicated with students and posted on this site.

For more information, please contact General Manager Jason Rosvall at jason.rosvall@cafebonappetit.com or 503-554-3201.
