Returning Student Question of the Day

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Why should I select my meal plan now?

Two reasons:

1. Once we roll the administrative software system over after this current semester, all meal plans will have to be entered by hand. The risk of human data entry error increases.

2. It allows Jere Witherspoon to focus on other important things.

DON’T DELAY!! Choose your meal plan for the Fall Semester NOW! (Please?)

Thank you.

The Write Stuff ~ Script Competition

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

“In the beginning was the Word.” With those words, Steven Spielberg reminded the Academy Award audience of the supreme importance of the script in the filmmaking process. Without a good story, you’re not going to have a good film.

“The Write Stuff” screenplay competition is designed to draw out the best stories and scripts the George Fox community has to offer. We’re specifically looking for scripts that can be filmed in the Producing and Directing class next fall. Here are the guidelines:

Scripts should be written in standard screenplay format, in 11- or 12-point Courier font.

Submitted scripts should be between 12 and 25 pages long.

Because we’ll be shooting with a large crew, the production aspect of the script can be somewhat more ambitious than typical student film fare. Any genre, from science fiction to Westerns to post-nuclear neo-realism will be considered.
Stories can be light and frothy, or deep and meaningful. However, they should be complete stories with engaging characters and entertaining tales.
The Write Stuff competition is open to current GFU students, as well as faculty and staff of GFU.

The winning writer will receive a prize of $100 cash.

In exchange, the writer grants George Fox University the right to produce his or her screenplay in the Producing and Directing class. While the writer will be encouraged to apply to direct the project, it should be noted that he or she is not guaranteed to direct. If you can’t stand seeing your pet project directed by someone else, write something else to submit.

To enter, send an email to Matt Meyer with your script attached as a Word document or Final Draft file. All entries must be submitted by midnight Friday, June 15th. No late submissions will be accepted.
