To all students and faculty with children: The Associated Student Community activities committee is hosting its annual Halloween party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with trick-or-treating on campus. Festivities continue in the Cap and Gown Room after that, with the event wrapping up at about 8 p.m.
The Richter Scholars Program awards research grants to undergraduate and graduate students. Students in all disciplines are eligible to receive the awards and awards have been used to support everything from summer research in chemistry to a campus film project.
Awards are typically around $3,700 and can include student stipends (undergraduates can include up to $3200 for a summer stipend). Graduate students may apply for stipends; however, graduate student awards typically support direct costs of the research. Students applying for stipends should indicate the amount of time they intend to spend on the project.
The attached announcement provides details about the Richer Scholar program and on what must be included in an application. In addition, there is a guide designed to help students in the preparation of proposals. For more information, visit the university’s website (http://www.georgefox.edu/academics/richter).
Applications must be turned in to Chris Koch, chair of the Richter Scholars Committee, on the Newberg campus (psychology office; Hoover Academic Building, Room 110), and Mark Weinert, director of the Portland Center, at the Portland campus (seminary office). Boise and Salem students should mail their applications to Chris Koch (at George Fox University, 414 N. Meridian St., Box 6143, Newberg, OR 97132). Applications are due by Dec. 3, 2007, at 4 p.m. Awards will be announced no later than Dec. 22, 2007.
Students and employees are welcome to visit the University Store for this Friday and Saturday’s Family Weekend sale. Drop by between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, to receive a 10- to 50-percent discount on George Fox University imprinted items (except diploma frames).

Theatre majors, minors, and scholarship students, prepare a rehearsed and memorized 90 second monologue for the first round of auditions. Everybody else, come with or without a prepared monologue! Cold reading monologues will be provided at the sign-in table during auditions.

Mary Helen Curruth, a child survival specialist, and Kecia Bertermann, a technical services specialist, will discuss their work with Medical Teams International in Liberia and Indonesia on Monday, Oct. 29, in Lemmons 8 on the Newberg campus. They will speak from 4:40 to 5:30 p.m. and from 7 to 7:50 p.m. The event is sponsored by the university’s Liberal Arts Critical Issues Program.

The Health and Counseling Center is hosting a flu clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the center. Please make an appointment with the Health and Counseling Center at ext. 2340.
