A seminar, “Preparing to Buy Your First Home,” will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, in EHS 102. Presented by Northwest Lending Solutions, the seminar will help clear up some of the myths about buying a house. Attendees also will have a chance to win an iPod Shuffle, and free pizza and drinks will be served.

ASC communications in need of student employees

The Associated Student Community communications department is hiring students for next year. Students are needed to work with The Crescent, KFOX, L’Ami, the darkroom, and the Bruin Directory. Most urgently, there is a need to hire the heads of these sub-committees. All positions come with a small stipend. Applications are available in the Bruin Den. Acting on Aids documentary “Dear Francis” to be shown April 9

Acting on Aids would like to encourage all students to participate in Aids Awareness Week, to a “pure and undefiled religion” (James 1:27).

Please help with small contributions of loose change in orange buckets located around campus, as well as your continual prayer for Aids-affected families with our “8 Ways to Pray for Aids.”

We would also like to invite all students for a showing of the “Dear Francis” documentary, showing Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. in EHS 102 for community and snacks!

Thailand May Serve team seeks donations for April 12 sale

The Thailand May Serve team is accepting donations for a garage sale through Friday, April 11. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Ron Gregory Atrium in EHS, with all proceeds benefiting the Thailand May Serve team.

Library thanks those who participated in survey

The library staff wishes to thank the George Fox community for participating in the recent library service quality survey. Over the past few weeks, 887 students, faculty, staff, and administrators, or 22 percent of the university community, completed the survey. Many respondents also supplied written comments. Library faculty and staff will soon review the data plus all the suggestions and comments with great interest.

Spiritual Formation Requirement Reminder ~ Check your credits on Bruindata!

Have you checked on your chapel credits recently? Do you have the right number of credits applied to your chapel record?

After today, April 7, there are 4 more opportunities for adding to your chapel record.

If you are involved in an approved Bible Study/Small Group, the credits will be applied during the last week of the semester (April 21 through 25). Please make sure your Small Group leader knows how to submit your names so that you can receive the proper credit.

Credits have already been applied for the Spring Serve trips.

Fox Film Festival schedule released for April 11-12

The annual Fox Film Festival is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Cameo Theater in downtown Newberg, and at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in Bauman Auditorium. The cost is $4 for Friday’s showing and free on Saturday.

Come join faculty, students, and staff in celebrating the contributions of Tom Johnson (Religious Studies), who has served for the last 11 years at George Fox as university president, seminary dean, and professor of biblical theology.

A reception for Tom is scheduled from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the atrium of the Stevens Center. Tom and wife Michele will be moving to Whidbey Island in their retirement; their presence among us will be greatly missed. Come join us for sharing, music, refreshments, and fellowship.

University hosts concerts in Bauman Auditorium April 7-8

The university will host a Chamber Concert, featuring performances by many of our chamber ensembles including the Flute Ensemble, Handbell Ringers, Trumpet Quartet, Clarinet Quartet, Keyboard Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, and Women’s Chorale, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in Bauman Auditorium. There is no admission charge, and doors open at 7 p.m.

The following evening, April 8, the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. The symphony consists of George Fox University students, faculty, and residents of the greater Portland area. Pieces performed will include Capriccio Espagnol Op. 34 by Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov and Symphony No. 3 in C Major by Jean Sibelius.

The Jazz Dessert, originally scheduled for April 15, has been canceled.
