Bon Appetit would like to thank everyone for the success and overwhelming support given by the vast majority of students with the first “Trayless Tuesday.” With few exceptions, we received dozens of very positive comments from students and we’re encouraged that so many share concerns regarding the amount of food typically wasted each meal and how it affects our environment.

Our thanks go out to everyone for making this small weekly sacrifice of convenience, and we look forward to continued support and success with the remaining “Trayless Tuesdays” this year.

George Fox University, Portland Central Young Life and the Act Six program will host a forum for the Portland community to discuss the recent campus incident and racial reconciliation issues on Friday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m. at Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church. The church address is 3138 N. Vancouver Ave., Portland. Students are welcome to attend.

Doug Campbell’s (Visual Arts) photo expressionism exhibit, “Second Street Parking,” is currently on display in the Murdock Learning Resource Center. The show runs through the month of October.

This year we have a mission: “Expanding Our Boundaries Together.”

We want you all to know that Multiculturalism is not limited to, nor defined by things that are skin deep; we believe that culture encompasses all of who we are (i.e., style of music, attire, enjoyed activities, etc.). It is our hope to spread this message at George Fox University.

Purpose of MCC:
   -Create a safe space for self expression
   -To discuss/connect the significance of race/culture to God and the Christian life
   -To explore culture as it exists today

You are invited to attend the artist talk and opening reception for the art exhibit “Natural Affinities,” featuring the work of Steve Tyree, Blythe Eastman and Totem Shriver. The artist talk (in Hoover 102) begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, with the opening reception to follow at 5 p.m. The exhibit runs through Oct. 23 in the Minthorne Gallery.

Bon Appetit is issuing an “Eat Local Challenge” on Tuesday, Sept. 30. To commemorate the event, lunch in the Klages Dining Room will feature ingredients from within a 150-mile radius of Newberg. This act, while seemingly simple, has far-reaching implications.

For starters, food grown locally is fresher and more flavorful than food that is harvested early so it can be transported great distances. Tuesday’s greens will come from Mustard Seed Farms, the beef from The Dalles, the vegetables from throughout Yamhill County, and the mushrooms from the coastal range. Secondly, eating local invests in our own community and helps to preserve local farmers and artisans.

This Friday, Oct. 3, an art exhibit by Mary Saunders will open in Brougher Studio 3 at 4 p.m. The series of self-portraits, titled “How Am I Not Myself?,” will be on display all month, so if you can’t make it to the opening, stop by later. Refreshments will be served at Friday’s opening.
