Bruin, Jr. (that little leather guy, somewhat resembling a Bruin, that everyone wrestles over during the Bruin Brawls) is hidden outside somewhere on campus!

Bruin, Jr. is fair game. The goal is to have possession of Bruin, Jr.  That means you can capture, steal, kidnap, abduct, commandeer, or hijack him.

The class of 2011 has possession, but did they hide him well enough?

Anti-Racist Writer Tim Wise comes to PCC Oct. 15

Join Multicultural Services in hearing Tim Jacob Wise share his thoughts, “Beyond Diversity: Challenging Racism in an Age of Backlash” Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at Portland Community College, Sylvania Campus.

Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S. and has spoken in 48 states and on more than 400 college campuses, including Harvard, Stanford, and the Law Schools at Yale and Columbia. Wise is the author of White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son and Affirmative Action: Racial Preference in Black and White. A collection of his essays, Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections From an Angry White Male, will be published in the fall of 2008, and his fourth book, Between Barack and a Hard Place: Race and Whiteness in the Age of Obama, will be released in the spring of 2009.

APA style workshop scheduled Oct. 15 in EHS 102

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is providing a workshop on the style requirements of the American Psychological Association (APA).  The hour-long session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in EHS 102. An attendance sheet will be passed around for any students who need to document attendance.

Consider nominating senior students for servant leadership award

Do you know a George Fox senior who demonstrates outstanding service as a servant leader on campus or in the community? Please nominate them for the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award.

Five seniors will be selected to receive the award. Each recipient will receive $1,000. The award recipient will be required to set aside $250 for a charitable organization of their choice, with the remaining $750 to be distributed to the award recipient in the form of a cash reward. Only seniors are eligible for the award. There is not a limit on how many students you can nominate.

The nomination form can be found at this link on the student life site. All nomination forms are due Oct. 31 to Kristina Findley (Student Life) at Box #6148.

Student Nursing Association meeting Oct. 10

Come to the Student Nursing Association club meeting Friday, Oct. 10 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Hoover 103. Nursing and pre-nursing students encouraged to join.

Cost for joining the club is $10 for pre-nursing students (covers until you enter the program) and $25 for nursing students (covers for the remainder of your time at Fox). Dues are to be paid by the meeting on Friday.

Be a part of La Zona, an outreach to the Newberg Hispanic community.

George Fox’s Multicultural Services has partnered with Edwards Elementary to tutor and mentor students who do not have English support at home. Volunteers must commit to weekly tutoring. Spanish language is not required.
