Bookstore hosts Homecoming Sale Feb. 20-21

May Serve team hosts car wash fundraiser Saturday

A car wash fundraiser is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Newberg Les Schwab. Come and support members of the 2009 May Serve team as they raise money for their trip to South Africa to work with Monte Christo Ministries. Go ED. is a semester study abroad program of Food for the Hungry that seeks to transform the next generation to own and end poverty. Go ED. is a cross-cultural experience that engages your head, hands, and heart in the problem of poverty and God’s transformational power: both physical and spiritual; globally and within yourself.

Go ED. seeks to promote and provoke this transformation in young people through four core program components:
Shared life in international community,
Guided Christian spiritual formation
Supervised field practicum placement in development work
Rigorous and relevant academic curriculum.

May Serve fundraiser at women’s basketball game Feb. 20

Here is your chance to support GFU May Serve 2009 South Africa team Friday, February 20 during half-time at the women’s basketball game in the Miller Gymnasium!The goal is to collect money from the crowd as the team walks up the stands with rows of duct tape. Please give as you feel led by sticking money to the duct tape as it passes you over head.

Sports Hall of Fame — The university will induct the following individuals into its Hall of Fame this weekend: Nate Barnett (baseball), Gegi (Bonera) Ward (women’s soccer), Howard Crow (four-sport athlete), Randy Winston (track and field coach), the 1999 Bruin baseball team, and Nike College Basketball Sports Marketing Director Eric Lautenbach (meritorious service). They will be introduced at halftime of the men’s basketball game Friday.

Northwest Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament – The Bruins, currently 23-0, are tied for No. 2 in the WBCA national poll and ranked No. 3 in the D3hoop.com poll. The women have clinched the Northwest Conference championship and will be home for the NWC Tournament next week.

The Bruins will host a to-be-determined opponent at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the semifinals. If they advance, they will host the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. Because this is a postseason event, regular-season passes are not valid for admission. Ticket prices for all tournament games are $6 for adults and $3 for seniors 55 and older and students 18 and younger. College students from the participating schools only will be admitted free with their student IDs.

Homecoming 2009 scheduled on Newberg campus Feb. 20-21

Homecoming 2009 is set to take place this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21, on the Newberg campus. Hosted by Alumni Relations, this annual celebration includes a diverse selection of events designed to help alumni reconnect with each other and with the university.

Highlights of Homecoming 2009 include the Winter Music Concert on Friday night; the Alumni Celebration Brunch Saturday morning; class reunions (for the classes of 1939, 1949, 1969, 1979, 1984, 1989, and 1999) Saturday afternoon; and a Young Alumni Gathering at Abby’s Pizza on Saturday night. Additionally, this year’s schedule features two special affinity reunions — one for alumni of the George Fox football program, and one for alumni of any George Fox business program.

Homecoming also features the final two nights of conference basketball play for both the men and undefeated women squads.

Homecoming basketball games tip off Friday, Saturday

Homecoming basketball games are scheduled this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21, in the Wheeler Sports Center. On Friday, Willamette University visits to play the George Fox women (23-0) at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. The 2009 Sports Hall of Fame recipients will be introduced at halftime of the men’s game.

On Saturday, Pacific Lutheran comes to Newberg to play the women at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. Homecoming festivities will take place during halftime of the men’s game.
