This Pizza Chat will focus on how to select a major and the resources available to students deciding what to major in. Pizza is provided!! Participants are asked to sign-up in advance by going to your MyGFU page. Click on Career Services and then Bruin Careers.  Create an account and search “Career Events.”

Yearbooks are available to be picked up beginning Wednesday

The 2009-10 yearbooks are in! The books will be available in the SUB starting Wednesday, Oct. 13, and will continue to be available until at least Friday, Oct. 15. These books are free to sophomores, juniors and seniors and are available on a first-come, first-served basis (once they’re gone, they’re gone). You are responsible to get your own book (just look for the table with the yearbooks on it and pick one up).

Employees, if you work in an area (such as the library or alumni relations) that gets a book for the office every year, please contact Hannah Wilcox at hwilcox06@georgefox.edu, and we will make sure that you get one. Thank you!

Images inspired by film noir now on exhibit in Lindgren Gallery

An exhibit of drawings by John Calabrese, titled “Black and White: Mood Images,” is now on display in the Lindgren Gallery. The pieces, inspired by film noir, will be up through Nov. 12. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rine presents at ‘Intellectual Feast’ Tuesday afternoon

Abby Rine will share her research on the subject “Is Sin Sexed? Luce Irigaray on Sin and Feminine Subjectivity” at an “Intellectual Feast” hosted by the Department of Religious Studies on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Come join us for good conversation and refreshments. The presentation runs from 4 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 250.

Rutgers professor presents lecture on Quakers Oct. 21

The university community is invited to a public lecture by a Rutgers professor, Andrew Murphy, who will present “Persecuting Quakers? The Politics of Conscience in Early Pennsylvania” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in Hoover 105.

Murphy has written about religious liberty in general and on Quakers and religious liberty more specifically. Among his many publications are: Prodigal Nation: Moral Decline and Divine Punishment from New England to 9/11, Conscience and Community: Revisiting Toleration and Religious Dissent in Early Modern England and America, and The Political Writings of William Penn. He is currently writing a book entitled Liberty, Toleration, and Law: The Political Thought of William Penn.

Career Services hosts Graduate School Emphasis Week Oct. 18-22

Career Services will host a Graduate School Emphasis Week Oct. 18-22. The week will include a “Getting Into Graduate School” presentation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in Stevens 109; a George Fox graduate schools fair from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, in the Hoover lobby; packets of information for students; and a discussion blog on Career Services’ website.

Registration for the Oct. 20 presentation is available on Bruin Careers and is limited to the first 40 people.

Theatre alumni perform in upcoming show Oct. 15-16

Interested in seeing what some of our theatre alumni are up to? Come see the staged reading of “Rabbit Hole” by David Linsay-Abaire at the Hillsboro Actors Repertory Theatre in Hillsboro Oct. 15-16. The show stars George Fox theatre alumni Tara (Strever) Beanblossom, Jordan Beanblossom and Jessie (Sarver) Pick, and is directed by Stephen Pick. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. shows are $8 at the door. The venue is located at 185 S.E. Washington St., in Hillsboro.

Spiritual Life reschedules sex talk, hosts faculty panels Wednesday

The sex talk originally scheduled by Spiritual Life for Tuesday night (Oct. 11) has been postponed until the spring. We still look forward to seeing you in Wednesday’s chapel, when we will be hearing from faculty panels on “What I Wish I Would Have Known” at various locations on campus.

Student Project Fund

ASC is now accepting proposals for additions to campus through the Student Project Fund. The Student Project Fund is a fund set aside to see student initiated ideas executed on campus through ASC. Examples have been the Ampitheater and the currently being built fire pit.

They are due October 22.

Interested in living or working overseas, but not sure how to do it? The Big Guide can help. The Office of Career Services has a subscription to this great interactive website that allows you to access its abundant resources for free.

Visit careers.georgefox.edu and find the link under “News and Updates” to activate your free account. Once registered, you can network with others interested in living or working abroad, both inside and outside of George Fox, and can access numerous videos and text resources to help you prepare for your upcoming adventure.

Salsa Dance

Voters’ pamphlets now available on campus

Copies of the voters’ pamphlet for the Oregon general election are now here. Pick one up from the counter by the Associated Student Community offices and Bruin Den or get one from the counter in the hallway of Mail Services. The pamphlet has information about the canditates running for office as well as the different measures that are on the ballot.

For the first time in George Fox history, the Multicultural Department is bringing to you World’s Got Talent. A night of cultural celebration with performances from around the world.
