Face Painters Needed For Bruin Madness! The Bruin Madness Indoor Tailgate Party & KidZone is on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to face paint at the event.

Writing Groups

The Academic Resource Center is offering the opportunity to be in a writing group this semester for all those interested. An ARC consultant will organize and facilitate weekly meetings with a consistent group of writers who wish to share their writing and receive feedback from others. Students may bring assigned or independent work.

Groups will be meeting Monday through Thursday. If you are interested, please contact Jay Miller (millerj06@georgefox.edu) as soon as possible.

Final night of ‘Closing the Gap’ events is Wednesday

Please join the International Justice Mission for the third and final evening of the group’s “Closing the Gap: Addressing the Mentality Behind Sex Trafficking” event. We will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in Bauman Auditorium and feature the abolitionist nonprofit band Jubilee. Admission is free.

James Project works with Five Rock Ranch

Guest biology professor speaks on campus Jan. 27

The Department of Biology and Chemistry is hosting Elizabeth DuPriest, PhD, an assistant professor of biology and a research scientist at Warner Pacific College. She will share her research in a lecture, titled “Developmental Programming of Adipose Structure and Function,” from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in EHS 102. All are welcome to attend.

Pass/No Pass Option Available

Pass/No Pass option available in Registrar’s Office for Juniors & Seniors. Stop by anytime during the weeks of January 24th-February 4th to fill out the form.

Requirements for Pass/No Pass eligibility are:

·Junior or senior standing, which is 62 credits or more

·Elective courses only, cannot be a course for major or general education requirements

·Cumulative GPA of 2.00

·Must earn a C- or higher in the class to receive credit for the course

***Once you change the course to Pass/No Pass you are unable to change the course back to being graded, even if you find out you have an “A” in the class.

Sports Editor wanted for the Crescent

The Crescent student newspaper is looking for a new Sports Editor.
If you are interested in journalism, sports, and visual layout, this is the perfect opportunity to gain experience for your future.
The Sports Editor is responsible for writing stories, as well as the layout of the sports page and attending weekly meetings.

We would love to work with you on field experience and internship credit requirements, or the semester-end stipend.

University hosts relationship retreat Feb. 11-13

This Valentine’s Day weekend, Feb. 11-13, the Office of Spiritual Life is sponsoring a relationship retreat. If you are married, engaged or seriously dating, you are invited to join us for a time of community, learning and relaxation in Pacific City! Cary and Tracy Balzer, from the Center of Relationship Enrichment in Arkansas, will be teaching about the importance of cultivating healthy communication.

Each attendee will be taking a pre and post test and will be required to attend a spring follow-up session. It’s $30 per couple, including lodging and food (check payable to GFU).

IJM hosts sessions to discuss mentality behind sex trafficking

The university’s International Justice Mission group will host an event, “Closing the Gap: Addressing the Mentality Behind Sex Trafficking,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in Lemmons 8. Speakers will discuss the industry of sex trafficking.

The following night, at 7 p.m. in Hoover 105, we will address the mentality of trafficking. And on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium, the abolitionist nonprofit band Jubilee will perform for free.

GET SMART Job Search Workshop

ARC hosts workshop on research papers

Research papers can seem overwhelming, but following a step-by-step, organized approach can make writing them a lot less stressful. We will go over these steps at an Academic Resource Center workshop, “Steps to Writing a Successful Research Paper,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, in Lemmons 8.

Gary Tandy (English) and Jane Scott (Public Services Librarian) will speak about what steps to take and guide you to campus and Internet resources that can help make you a better researcher.

Students will be asked to sign in so their attendance can be verified for any professors who are giving credit for participation. Videos and materials from selected ARC workshops are available on the ARC website (arc.georgefox.edu).

GFU Silent Night – at the January 22nd basketball games.

All students who attend the Bruin basketball games this Saturday are asked to participate in GFU Silent Night.

Shhhh.  No sounds should be made until we score our 10th point, then GO CRAZY!    Bruin fans will do this for both games: 6 p.m and 8 p.m.
