Applications available for Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation (SCORR)

Applications are available now for the annual SCORR conference. It is open to any undergraduate student, and we encourage all who are interested to apply.

This year we are gathering a team of students who will be awarded partial scholarships and participate in diversity events, including going to Biola University in California. See the SCORR 2011 website for more details.

Contemporary Worship Ensemble

Living Area Representatives and Class Representatives comprise the ASC Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is tasked with reviewing the minutes of the Central Committee to ensure that it is acting with the bounds of the ASC Constitution. The Supreme Court also oversees the Community Life Fund, which exists to provide students with financial means to organize events for parts or all of the student body.

The position is paid, very social, and looks great on a resume.

The application deadline is Friday, September 9 at 5 p.m. in the ASC Offices.

Peer2Peer Mentee Application Sign Up

Peer2Peer is new program that pairs up incoming underrepresented students with retuning student mentors. In the program an underrepresented student is defined as: you come from a low social economic status, are a first generation student, or are from a diverse ethnic background. We are accepting applications for new mentees.

Applications are available and are due Friday, September 9 at 5 p.m. in the Student Life Office.

Men’s group barbecue planned Thursday at amphitheater

Portland, Salem, Redmond and Boise sites closed on Monday

The university’s campuses in Portland, Salem, Boise and Redmond will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, for the Labor Day holiday. The Newberg campus will be open and will instead take a mid-semester holiday on Friday, Oct. 14.

Register your car now!

Students: Around 230 of you have yet to either register your vehicle or register as NOT bringing a vehicle to campus. If you haven’t completed this by the Add/Drop date of Sept. 9, you WILL be issued a $25 non-refundable parking permit regardless of whether you have a car or not.

So, please register your vehicles on myGFU as soon as possible! If you didn’t bring a car to campus, you are still required to register on myGFU as “not bringing a car to campus” to avoid being assigned a parking permit.

Admissions hosts Bruin Preview T-shirt design contest

Are you a graphic designer and want $50? Submit a T-shirt design that incorporates “George Fox” or “Be Known” to Andrea Heath (aheath@georgefox.edu) by Friday, Sept. 30, for a chance to earn $50.

The winning design will be printed on 400 T-shirts for prospective high school students at fall and spring Bruin Preview. The admissions office will choose the winning design by Friday, Oct. 7.

Serve Day schedule released

Serve Day is next Wednesday! The entire university community will unite together for our 13th annual Serve Day, participating in a variety of service opportunities in Newberg and the surrounding area.

Here’s the schedule:

7:30-8:30 a.m. – Continental breakfast begins/bag your own lunch (provided by Bon Appétit)
8:20 a.m. – Kick-off celebration on the quad lawn
9 a.m. – Groups meet at numbered stakes on lawn (commuters meet in front of Bauman) and depart for service site
Lunch – Eat with your group at the service site
3-4 p.m. (approximate) – Participants return to campus
4 p.m. – Church Connection Fair and Volunteer Fair begin
4:30 p.m. – Campus celebration, games, activities fair begin
4:30-6:30 p.m. – Dinner

The cost of breakfast, lunch, and dinner is covered for all George Fox students, even if you are not on a university meal plan. If you would like to invite family or friends from outside the Fox community to the evening celebration and would like to purchase dinner tickets, please fill out this form.

Serve Day is required for all undergraduate students. The university will be shut down during Serve Day, which means all daytime classes are canceled and campus offices are closed (evening classes are not canceled for Serve Day). If you live on campus, contact your RA for more information about your Serve Day assignment.

Meal Plan Selection Deadline

Students are responsible to select their own meal plan for the fall 2011 semester and confirm the charges on MyGFU.

The deadline for making any changes is Friday, Sept. 9, at 5 pm.

Information about meal plans can be found on the Meal Plan Options page.

Students who fail to confirm their meal plans, and if eligible, make any changes, will be charged for the meal plan applied to their account even if they did not use the meal plan.

Students select their meal plans on MyGFU. Log in to your account. Click on SELF SERVICE. Under GFU Resources, click on UNIVERSITY FORMS.

You will learn how to plan, market and execute events along with administrative records management, budget, communication, and public relations training. These internships must be set up for credit through you academic advisor.

Serve Day Activity Fair

Are you involved with a club on campus? Would you like to make other students aware of your club?

Then the Serve Day Activities Fair is just what you are looking for.

At the end of our service on Serve Day, during the all campus celebration, student clubs will have an opportunity to set up a display as a way to advertise your club. The tables will be set up on the quad near all the fun activities that will be planned.
