Chamber, Chehalem Symphony concerts play this week

The university community is invited to two concerts scheduled in Bauman Auditorium this week. On Thursday, Nov. 10, a Chamber Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. and feature a clarinet trio, a keyboard ensemble, a low brass ensemble, a string ensemble and handbell ringers. Selections to be played will include works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Debussy and Brahms.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra will perform beginning at 3 p.m. The symphony will perform works by Beethoven (Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92, Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37 and Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major, Op. 55 Eroica). The cadenza for the first movement is a unique collaboration between James Pick (spring 2011 graduate) and Kenn Willson (Performing Arts), with a little inspiration from Beethoven.

If you are a student living on campus at George Fox, we want to hear your thoughts on a variety of factors regarding campus housing and dining services. Please take 10 to 15 minutes to complete this survey about your experiences.

The survey will be available for you to complete until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23.

The information collected from this will be used to:
1) Better understand student opinions and perceptions of university housing
2) Assess and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of student housing
3) Prioritize the use of resources to improving housing and housing selection
4) Prioritize and understand needs for strategic and long-term planning

Emergency information needed for FoxAlert

We will soon be conducting a test of FoxAlert, the Newberg campus emergency notification system.

In the unlikely event of an emergency, you would be potentially notified through three different methods:

  • Cell phone
  • E-mail
  • Text message

However, for either of these methods to work you must enter your personal contact information in your MyGFU account.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Login to your MyGFU account
  • Click on SELF SERVICE
  • Click on CAMPUS PERSONAL INFORMATION
  • Click on PHONE NUMBERS
  • On the PHONE TYPE pick list, choose the phone type you are registering
  • Type in your contact information
  • Click SAVE
  • If you need to add a number, first click on ADD A PHONE NUMBER
  • Make sure you click SAVE after each change

When contacted by phone, the number you will see is: “503-554-2007.”

‘Expressions of Faith’ art exhibit opens Thursday

A national juried art exhibition, “Expressions of Faith,” opens in the university’s Minthorne Gallery with a reception and artist talk on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The exhibit will feature pieces by artists including Susan Black, David Blow, Martha Chetelain, Kerri Jones, Angela D. Lee and others. It opens with a talk at 4:10 p.m. in Hoover 105 and a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery.  The show runs through Dec. 8.

Professional Preview Day registration extended

We still have openings to fill for Professional Preview Day on Wednesday, Nov. 16, so we are extending the student registration deadline until noon Wednesday, Nov. 9. We have a great group of alumni professionals eager to spend time with you to help you “power up your potential.”

There have been some professionals recently added, so go to careers.georgefox.edu review the possibilities and sign up right away. This event has proven to be a very beneficial and fun event for students, so don’t hesitate to join us.

Student Surveys – process for distribution

Need to send out a student survey? The following guidelines have been established for the distribution of student surveys. Faculty members are encouraged to help facilitate this process.

Please follow these guidelines when submitting student surveys for mass distribution. Send your surveys to Jere Witherspoon in the student life office. Your approved survey request should include all of the following:

  • Your name and e-mail address (may include the list of names from those in your group)
  • Course name and professor
  • Approval for distribution granted by: _______________________ (list department)
  • Short, catchy blurb about the survey no more than 35 words in length
  • A tested, workable link to the survey

An e-mail with all submitted surveys will be sent to all students once a week (on Wednesdays). An identical e-nnouncement will be submitted at the same time to student e-nnouncements. The following disclaimer will be attached to the e-mail and the e-nnouncement:

If interested, please come to the track field on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. as well as Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for team practices. No prior experience is need to come out for the team. I hope to see everyone soon.

Mail Services serves as drop-off site for Oregon ballots

Mail Services is an unofficial drop site for all Oregon ballots. Arrangements have been made with the Yamhill County Elections Office for us to offer this service. We accept any Oregon ballot (any county), and there is no postage necessary.

The deadline for this drop-off site is 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. All out-of-state ballots must be mailed with postage.
