Spring is tree-planting season! Come join the “George Fox Tree Planters” group this Thursday, Feb. 9, as we plant Doug-Fir, Red Alder, Oregon White Oak and many more in the Hess Creek forest.

This Sunday, Feb. 12, the film crew for the student film Push (directed by Mason Morris) will need extras at Newberg High School anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will be a drawing for an iTunes gift card in compensation for the actors’ time.

A Wheaton college professor and former director with an international relief organization will speak on campus and engage the university community in a conversation on the “holistic mission of God” at the school’s Spring Theological Conference Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 13-15.

Evvy Campbell, an associate professor of intercultural studies emerita at Wheaton, will speak in chapel on Monday, Feb. 13, and Wednesday, Feb. 15. Both services are scheduled from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium. In addition, Campbell will engage with students and other attendees in a conversation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the Cap and Gown Room. The topic of discussion will be “Engaging the Missional God: An Interactive Conversation.”

Many students feel called into professional careers, and often wonder how to live out their faith within that specific calling. Monday evening’s session will allow students and faculty to engage in conversations about how they can participate in God’s work in the midst of those distinct callings. Each speaker will sit with students and share a part of his or her story in small groups, with conversation and discussion following. Students will rotate to hear three of the six speakers. The evening will also include worship, refreshments and prayer.

Speakers include: Brian Doak (Religious Studies), Evvy Campbell (guest speaker), Kris Kays (Psychology), Davida Brown (Chemistry), Nate Peach (Economics) and Marie Palm (Nursing).

Tickets are available for the final She Loves Me winter musical shows, scheduled Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 9-12, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of Sunday’s performance, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.

Tickets are available at the box office between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and can be claimed by dropping by or calling 503-554-3844. Tickets are also available online at theatre.georgefox.edu. Employees get one complimentary ticket for any performance, and Thursday night is free for students. The box office is now located at the information desk on the first floor of the Stevens Center.

To help raise the last few hundred dollars needed to attend the Region Seven Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Fort Collins, Colo., next week (Feb. 12-18), George Fox theatre students are still selling oil change cards.

Each card is good for one oil, lube and filter, plus a 50-point inspection, at Doran Automotive in Newberg. Each card costs $25 (the same price you would pay with the Bruin Discount Card), has no expiration, and the net proceeds go toward housing and transportation costs for the students.

Be sure to visit Minthorne Gallery beginning this Thursday, Feb. 9, when Kendra Larson’s “Visions in the Landscape” show opens with an artist’s talk (4:10 p.m. in Hoover 105) and reception (5 to 7 p.m. in Hoover Academic Building).

The exhibit will remain up through March 2. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An installation of new updated metering equipment is scheduled for University Mail Services on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 9-10.

• There will be no interruption of incoming mail.
• Expect short delays in computing postage amounts at our customer service window during this process.

• Cutoff time for outgoing mail on Friday will be 2:15 p.m. (normal hours)

The 2012-13 George Fox donor-funded scholarship application deadline is less than two weeks away! If you haven’t started or haven’t submitted your application, start it today to be considered for a 2012-13 donor-funded scholarship.  The deadline is Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.

Faculty Journeys is a time where our George Fox faculty share their experience following the voice of God in their vocations. There will not be a chapel event in Bauman Auditorium Monday, Feb. 6. Rather, see below the locations at which our various faculty will be speaking during the regular chapel hour (10:40-11:30 a.m.).

This upcoming Monday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m., Ron Mock, associate professor of political science and peace studies, will speak at Quaere Verum and lead a discussion about how how we as Christians respond to terrorism and tyranny in today’s modern world.

Quaere Verum is a student group that meets weekly to discuss relevant issues and seek the truth through dialogue with one another. If you are interested in attending, we will be meeting at 7:20 p.m.  at the corner of Fulton and Center Street to walk to the house where we will meet.

Faculty and staff, please let your students know about this extended deadline.

This is a reminder that in order to be eligible to participate in the housing selection process for the 2012-13 academic year each student will need to pay a $150 non-refundable housing deposit. After housing assignments have been made this deposit will be held and applied towards future charges.

Housing deposits can be paid in Student Financial Services (SFS) on the first floor of the Stevens Center beginning Feb. 6 through March 16. Before you pay you should be aware of the following:

1. Your student account must be paid in full. If on a payment plan, your February payment (or March payment if after March 1) must be received and any amount not covered by your payment plan must be paid.
2. Regardless of who pays the deposit, each student must stop by SFS. If the deposit is accepted you will receive a Housing Deposit Confirmation slip. This slip is needed as a record of payment.
3. A payment received in any other way won’t be processed as a deposit, but instead will overpay the account or be applied towards the next monthly payment. SFS routinely refunds over-payments so if you get a refund check you are not expecting please stop by to confirm the status of your deposit.
