Our last Peace and Justice Symposium of the year will feature Roger and Sue Newell this Thursday, March 22. Those of you who have attended our symposiums before know this to be a wonderful time to dialogue and build a deeper understanding of what peace and justice looks like in practice both locally and globally through stories shared by George Fox faculty, staff and administrators.
Thursday’s symposium, titled “Journeys: South Africa, Social Justice, Sabbath,” will feature Sue, an assistant professor of social work, and Roger, a professor of religious studies. The event is free and open to the public.
This past summer, Roger and Sue traveled to South Africa to teach summer school at the College of the Transfiguration, a theological college in Grahamstown that trains pastors for ministry in the Anglican church of South Africa. From there, they traveled to Capetown, where Sue helped coordinate international placements for George Fox students at Cornerstone University. Their talks will reflect on their conversations last summer.
Please join us at 7:15 p.m. in the Quaker Heritage Room (upstairs library). Refreshments will be provided. Spiritual life credit is offered for students.
Questions? Contact Melanie Newell at ext. 2686 or mnewell@georgefox.edu.

The Housing Selection Form will be available online by noon today (Monday). The form will be available for housing sign-ups until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 23.
To be eligible to participate in selection, you will need to have your $150 Housing Deposit paid in Student Financial Services on the first floor of Stevens. Students have until March 22 to pay this and still participate in housing selection.
To sign up for housing with your group, simply login to the form here and then click on the “Housing Group Signup” link on the left side. One person from each group will fill out the remainder of the Housing Form with the housing codes for the entire group. There are step-by-step directions in the form that will walk you through the following:
- One person enters housing codes for the group
- Confirm your roommate choices
- Rank the order of your housing preferences
If you do not have a group to sign up with, you can go through the housing process as an individual. In this case, rather than placing you according to your credit ranking, we will work with you to identify a suitable spot to live.
If you would like help with filling out the Housing Form, there is a computer set up in the student life office. Please stop by and one of the housing staff will help answer your questions as you go.
For additional information about housing selection, please refer to the Housing and Residence Life website. If you have questions, please stop by or call the student life office (ext. 2310) or e-mail housing@georgefox.edu.
