The George Fox music department also offers Women’s Chorale, which is a non-auditioned group that meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:40 p.m.

If you have questions about any of these opportunities, please contact Debbie Hawblitzel or stop by the music office in Ross.

Attention piano students (or students who would like to learn)!

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

The music department has a solution for you!
Here are the options offered (you do NOT need to be a music major or minor):

MUSI 135A-  Beginning class piano for non-music majors (1 space available) or
MUSI 135B-  Intermediate class piano for non-music majors (6-7 spaces available) – 1-2 years of lessons at some time in your life.
Section A meets on Mondays from 1:40 p.m.- 2:30 p.m.

Section B meets on Wednesdays from 1:40 p.m. – 2:30 p.m

For those of you who have played for years and taken over three years of piano lessons, I would recommend that you consider enrolling in MUSA 105 PN for .5 credit.  This is a 30 minute private lesson once per week.  There is course fee for this class ($325/semester).

Fall 2012 Meal Plan Selection

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Please be sure you have selected a meal plan no later than today, Thursday, August 23, 2012.

Students who do not select their meal plan by this date will be given the lowest meal plan that they are eligible for.

Detailed information about meal plans can be found at this website.

Student Life requires that EVERYONE confirm their meal plan to be certain that you have the meal plan that you are expecting.

You can select your meal plan and confirm which meal plan you have in your MyGFU account – STUDENT RESOURCES – UNIVERSITY FORMS.

The 21, 14, 10, 10 +Flex, 7 and No Meal Plan all roll over from the fall to the spring semesters.

The 35 Block and the All Flex Plan do NOT roll over. These convert to the No Meal Plan. If you want to renew the All Flex or 35 Block Plan you must add these meal plans to your account in MyGFU.

Please Note: All changes must be processed no later than Friday, September 7, 2012. However, students can always add a meal plan through out the semester by contacting Jere Witherspoon in the student life office.

Accommodations to the meal plan are provided only through documented medical conditions.

All questions about the meal plans should be directed to Jere Witherspoon in the Student Life Office.

And now, a brief essay about the meal plan benefits by Dave Johnstone, associate dean of residence life:

The best part of a meal plan has nothing to do with the quality or nutrition of the food. The attractive part of eating on a meal plan is the opportunity to frequently connect with peers and classmates. Sharing a meal, conversation around the table, debriefing the day or anticipating what might unfold is really the gem of being on a meal plan. Historically and culturally communities have been built around food. I am not sure why it works, but sharing a meal is one of most significant ways to build a relationship, hence it strengthens our community. That in itself is a major benefit for being on the meal plan.

Pick up your lost and found items by Friday afternoon

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Any items not reclaimed by their owner will be donated to charitable causes on Friday afternoon so that we can start the academic year with an empty lost and found.

Register your car now!

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Students-if you are planning to live off-campus this fall, and haven’t yet completed the paperwork with Housing, your parking permit will NOT be issued until your housing status is confirmed. So, in order to have your parking permit waiting at Mail Services, please take care of that as soon as possible.

If you have not either registered your vehicle, or indicated your intent to NOT bring a car to campus, there is a good chance your parking permit will not be ready by the time school starts unless you register today. Even if you are not bringing a car to campus, you must go on myGFU to indicate that, as failure to register either way will result in a parking permit being assigned and charged to you after the add/drop date. It’s quick and fast to register, so log on to myGFU and check it off your “to-do” list today.

Mail Services seeking sender of two mystery packages

Monday, August 13th, 2012

Someone dropped two flat rate priority envelopes into the U.S. Mail stream last week with a return address of George Fox University. The person printed the labels off – probably using Click N Ship – using the USPS Web site. However, the person did not pay for the postage online or any other way.

The two envelopes came back to the return address – George Fox University – wanting postage to be paid.

One envelope was addressed to Michael Glatfelter of San Diego, Calif., and the other envelope was addressed to Ron Reid of Seminole, Okla. Each envelope contains a check with a return address of International Myeloma Society out of Rochester, Minn.

These envelopes – including the checks – will not be mailed until the postage has been paid. If you recognize this information, please contact Mail Services at ext. 2555 or lsartwel@georgefox.edu.

Thanks!
