Are you thinking of applying to be an RA, Peer Advisor, run for ASC office next year or any other student leadership position on campus? If so, we highly recommend that you take LEAD 360 in the spring.

This course is designed to give you the basic skills you will need to hold any leadership position on campus.

Abide meets this Thursday in Greenroom

What is Abide?

Abide is a women’s club on campus that is for anyone who desires to be a part of a committed community. Small groups will have their own specific focus, anywhere from relationship issues to self-image.

The first small group will start Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Greenroom, located on the left side of Bauman Auditorium.

Applications are available in the Student Life Office or will be available on Thursday night at the event. These applications are due Oct. 11.

National spokesperson for Muslim community speaks tonight

All are invited to tonight’s (Monday’s) Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture, “Being Muslim in America,” from 7 to 8 p.m., in Hoover 105. Harris Zafar, national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, will speak.

Zafar will provide insight into the experience of Muslims in this country, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Business Major Focus Group

There will be a Business Major focus group at 10:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in Hoover 103 to get feedback from students who are undeclared majors or have an interest in pursuing a major or minor in business.

We want to hear from you on what you’re looking for in a major and an undergraduate program, and what would appeal to you and get you more involved and engaged. What are you looking for in a program that seeks to serve you and give you an outlet for pursuing your passions within the practical application of a business major?

Spanish Chapel

Everyone is invited to attend the first Spanish Chapel of the school year at 10:40 a.m. Friday, September 21 in Bauman Auditorium. The service will start with worship and continue with a message by Angel Diaz, the pastor at Iglesia Amigos (Newberg Spanish Friends Church). The entire service will be in Spanish, but all students are welcome to attend.

An Opening in Phonathon

Are you looking for student employment? The Phonathon Team has an opening for student employment with evening hours on Monday and Wednesdays from 5:30-9 p.m.

We are looking for a new team member to join us starting in late September/early October. Phonathon Team Members serve as an ambassador of George Fox by of establishing and maintaining a connection to the university, as well as fundraising with its constituents (alumni, parents and friends of George Fox University). Comprehensive training will be provided.

You will build your resume with skills in negotiation, customer service, relationship building, and working in a team environment. We are located in Coyote Place, which is 1 mile off campus and reliable transportation is required—rain or shine!

‘Being Muslim in America’ is topic of Monday’s LACI lecture

The fourth installment of the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series is set for Monday, Sept. 24, in Hoover 105. The session runs from 7 to 8 p.m. and features Harris Zafar, national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Zafar’s lecture, entitled “Being Muslim in America,” will provide insight into the experience of Muslims in this country and discuss questions such as “How do Muslims see themselves as part of American society?” Zafar has recently appeared on Fox News and other media outlets to comment on recent developments in the Middle East. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The same lecture is presented from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Seminary professor Yinger presents at Faculty Research Forum Friday

The university community is invited to a Faculty Research Forum this Friday, Sept. 21, at 10:40 a.m. in Hoover 105 on the Newberg campus.

Kent Yinger, a professor of New Testament at the seminary, will present “Ruminating on the Fruit of the Spirit: Origin and Theological Significance of a Pauline Phrase.” Kent will discuss some of the theological conclusions that have been drawn from Paul’s use of the phrase “the fruit of the Spirit” in Galatians 5:22.

Justin Schneider speaks at IJM meeting tonight

Come hear Justin Schneider share his experiences as an intern in Thailand for the International Justice Mission (IJM). IJM is a global organization that fights human trafficking. Justin will be speaking and answering questions at the IJM club meeting tonight (Wednesday) from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Cultural House.
