Tonight (Thursday) at 5 p.m. the football team will be doing an intersquad scrimmage at Morris Field. There will also be a barbecue going on during the game. So come support your football team, and if you wear your BlueZone shirts you will get a free hot dog. See you there!

‘Reel Injun’ documentary Thursday night

We will be showing the film Reel Injun at Shalom this week. Reel Injun is a documentary that discusses Hollywood’s portrayal of Native Americans. The film will last about an hour and Drew Miller will then lead us in a talkback session.

Chapel Elective Credit is available for this event. Shalom starts at 9 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room every Thursday.

James Project in need of volunteers

James Project is partnering with Faith In Action from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 26, to serve the needy neighbors in our community. If you are interested in helping with this, please meet in front of the Outreach Ministries office in the Bruin Den at 8:30 a.m.

We will be doing a lot of fall clean-up for elderly folks in the Newberg area. We need volunteers to go to individual houses to help with yard work (cleaning gutters, raking leaves, trimming bushes, etc.) We will also need a group to do some inside cleaning.

Football, basketball teams host games this week

Come get a preview of some of our athletic teams this week! Today (Thursday), the football team will host an intersquad scrimmage at 5 p.m. at Morris Field. On Friday, Oct. 25, our men’s and women’s basketball programs will host alumni games (women at 6 p.m.; men at 8 p.m.) in Wheeler.

In addition, our men’s soccer team has home games both Saturday (vs. Whitman) and Sunday (vs. Whitworth) beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Austin Sports Complex.

Burgerville company chairman speaks on campus Oct. 30

The College of Business invites the university community to hear Tom Mears, chairman of The Holland, Inc., parent company to Burgerville, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. in Hoover 105. The presentation will be followed by a talk-back session from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Mears is the driving force behind Burgerville’s mission-led philosophy of “Serve with Love.” His visit is a part of the College of Business’ Executive in Residence program.

‘Healthy Eating on a Budget’ presented tonight in Hoover 105

Don’t forget to join us for a free presentation, “Healthy Eating on a Budget,” on the Newberg campus tonight (Thursday). Lori Sobelson, director of corporate outreach for Bob’s Red Mill, will speak from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Sobelson, an alumna of George Fox, will share simple yet effective ways to make healthy food choices on a budget. Her presentation includes a cooking demonstration, food samples, recipe handouts and product samples. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Mail info on elections in several Oregon counties

There are elections going on in several counties in Oregon. These ballots will need to be mailed through the U.S. Mail.

Since there is no election in Yamhill County (our local county), there are no drop-off sites available in Yamhill County. Outgoing ballots to all Oregon counties – as well as any other state – will require postage applied when mailed.

How to Prepare:

  • Prepare a fully memorized and rehearsed 90 second dramatic monologue and 1 minute of a Broadway song of your choice for the general audition (bring sheet music to the audition).  Call backs will feature cold readings, dance auditions and vocal work.
  • Cast will consist of 9 women, and 9 men.

The Garden of Hope

Heather Askew, the program coordinator for an NGO in Thailand called The Garden of Hope: Taw Saeng, will speak from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Cap & Gown Room. She works in human trafficking prevention and rehabilitation and is in the U.S. to do a speaking tour to share with college students about the problem of human trafficking, what The Garden of Hope is doing to help prevent it, and how students can get involved in the fight.

ARC Appointments – Make Them Now!

November is just around the corner, and college students know what that means: research projects, final papers to start, and much more. The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is a great place to get writing help or general academic coaching, but available appointments fill up fast. If you need to schedule an ARC appointment in order to get credit on an assignment, make your appointment early. Plan on scheduling your appointment at least a week in advance to guarantee yourself a spot.
