Please join us for an organic chemistry candidate seminar by Anton V. Dubrovskiy, PhD, a postdoctoral research associate at California Institute of Technology. The title of the lecture is “Adventures in Aryne Chemistry and Total Synthesis of Ritterazine B.”
This lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m. in EHS 102 and is sponsored by the Department of Biology and Chemistry.

- Undergrad students: You can access your mailbox on all of the open dates listed.
- VAC graduate students: The last day to check your mailbox is Dec. 20, 2013 (until Jan. 6).
Mail that arrives after Dec. 20 will be held at Mail Services’ North Street Annex from Dec. 21 through Jan. 3. You can stop and ask for it on the open dates. Packages can be picked up during the regular window hours on those open dates.

Update your personal data in MyGFU
While you’re in MyGFU, please verify that your address, social security number, and any other personal information is up to date before we issue W-2s. From “Self Service,” open the “Campus Personal Information” screen and verify/update your information. If there is a change or misspelling in your primary name, please contact HR at hr@georgefox.edu.

Residents at Friendsview Retirement Center have requested help from George Fox students to decorate their wheelchairs for Christmas.
Take a break from studying at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, to help with the festivities. Decorating begins at 2:30 p.m. and will last about an hour. There will be Christmas music and fellowship with the elderly  in our community.

Go to gfubookstore.com, click on “Sell Textbooks,” select “George Fox University” and enter the book information. Print the quote to lock in your prices (valid for 24 hours only) and bring that to the Annex. (Rental books are also due by Friday, Dec. 20, at 4 p.m.)

Bookmaking Workshop with Forrest Freed at the Chehalem Cultural Center!
When: Wednesday, Dec. 18, 6–9 p.m.
Cost: $20
For the holiday season, Forrest Freed will be offering a Book Arts workshop where you will learn how to create a “pamphlet stitch book.” These books could function as a great handmade Christmas gift as either a journal, sketchbook, or photo album. It will have blank pages inside and a colorful cover, and the making process will involve simple folding and gluing.
If time permits, we will also make and decorate Christmas cards and envelopes.

Swing by EHS today (Thursday) to see the engineering department’s 10th annual “Wobble-Off” competition. Engines will be on display in the EHS Atrium from 2 to 3 p.m., and the engine competition begins at 3 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium.
Come and enjoy this demonstration of freshman engineering students’ first projects – an exciting variety of oscillating steam/air-operated engines. The event highlights the students’ first-year studies in engineering design, solid modeling and machining, and showcases the creative and impressive results of their design-build projects.
The students’ engines will compete in a variety of categories, including maximum speed, minimum vibration, maximum coast, cost efficiency and creativity/craftsmanship.
