IT: H-drive will be retired on Friday

Monday, December 9th, 2013

IT has been working to update electronic storage used by faculty and staff. On Friday, Dec. 13, we will turn off what has been traditionally referred to as the H-drive (Mac users may know this better as *username*$). We have spent the last three months contacting active users of this service and have helped them transition to alternative storage and set them up on our new automated backup system called CrashPlan.

We have reached the time to turn this service off. Files will be retained, but users will not have direct access. This transition will not affect most users. If you are still actively using your H-drive, then please contact the IT Service Desk before Friday Dec. 13, to set up an appointment if you need help transitioning away from using your H-drive.

Questions? Contact the Service Desk at servicedesk@georgefox.edu.

Following is Rachel’s statement about the show:

“Family gathers to eat, old friends catch up over coffee, a tea party bridges the gap between student and professor. Forming the marrow of these events are three constants: food and drink, the vessels that contain them, and the presence of people. It is for these occasions of coming together that I have a passion for creating quality, functional ceramic vessels.”

Student Life: A Reminder About Living in Community

Friday, December 6th, 2013

As we approach Christmas, we want to offer some reminders about living in a Christ-centered community.

Our campus single-stall bathrooms have recently been converted to allow more flexibility in use. We have visitors, guests, family members and students (undergraduate and graduate) who benefit from using non-gender-specific bathrooms when they have young children, are transgender, or when lines form for a single-sex bathroom during major events.

Two weeks ago, two restroom signs on campus were defaced during the night with “X’s” over specific gender symbols. The markings were immediately removed by university staff. In addition to being an act of vandalism, this action brought pain to members of our community. This kind of action has no place in a community like ours.

We believe that all people are of great worth and value in the eyes of our Creator God and seek to increasingly become a campus characterized by loving support of one another (even when we disagree). Cultural humility and civility means that we seek to understand and appreciate others who are different from ourselves. Language and/or behavior that relies on stereotypes or is demeaning toward individuals or groups of individuals is unacceptable for George Fox students and employees, whether it occurs in person, through social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) or anonymously.
