Campus dining options available

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

Now that we’ve finished cooking and serving more than 25,000 meals over the past week and we’re finally catching our breath, we felt it was time to remind everyone of the multiple dining options on campus.

Bruin Bucks: Available to everyone including staff, faculty and students with a valid GFU ID card that works like a debit card, we offer a 10 percent bonus to everyone who puts $50 or more on their ID card. It can then be used at any of our three retail cafe’s on campus (Bruin Den, Bruin Bites and Villa Café).

Lunch Club Card: Available exclusively to faculty and staff, this punch card offers 15 lunches in Klages Dining Room for just $60. Our “all you care to eat” options include a full salad bar; multiple hot entrees including vegetarian, vegan and made without gluten; artisan-style pizza; deli items; and a multitude of other foods and beverages giving you a great opportunity to interact and sit with students or other staff/faculty.

Both are very easy to sign up and use. Just visit our Bon Appetit offices in the rear of the commons, bring your ID card and cash/credit card or check, and we’ll do the rest.

Our menus are posted weekly along with great nutritional information at cafebonappetit.com/georgefox.

Please feel free to give us a call at ext. 2500 or just drop by if you have any questions.

‘Islam and the West’ lecture series opens Monday in Hoover 105

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

All are invited to join us for the first Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture of the semester this Monday, Sept. 1, as Shahriar Ahmed, president of the Bilal Mosque Association, speaks from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. The presentation ties into our theme for this fall, “Islam and the West.”

Ahmed will speak on “The Five Pillars: Comparing and Contrasting Islam with the Other Abrahamic Faiths.” The talk will cover the basics, tasks and rituals that describe the life of a Muslim – rituals sustained for more than 1,400 years without a formal church and non-negotiable aspects of the faith. An open Q&A session will follow.

The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Questions? Contact Paul Otto at ext. 2676 or potto@georgefox.edu.

Updated budget summary reports

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

As part of the Chart of Accounts updates, budget summary reports available in MyGFU will be changing to include the program chart field.

The reports will be updated today (Thursday, Aug. 28) mid-morning. You will still be able to use your existing run controls when running the updated reports. In order to see your budget information, you will need to fill in the program and fund fields on the screen where you indicate year and department.

If you have multiple programs in your department, you may use the “%” sign as a wild card to show the programs within your department. For instance, if you had both MG100 and MG101 in your department, you would put MG10% to include both.

Important ticket info for opening football game

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

Due to the excitement surrounding the return of football at George Fox, we are anticipating a sold-out game on Saturday, Sept. 6!

The university has reserved a limited number of tickets for employees and students. Please review the information below to find out how you and your family and friends can get your tickets for the big game!

Employees
Employees are eligible to receive one complimentary ticket. (Note: The ticket supply is limited and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis). These tickets are available to pick up for a limited time today (Thursday, Aug. 28) from noon to 4 p.m. in front of the Stevens Center (Portland Center employees can request their tickets in person with Emily Maynard at the Portland Center during this same time frame).

Children under 10 are free to attend the event, but you will still need to pick up children’s tickets that day. Anyone can pick up the tickets for you, but they must present your employee ID to receive their tickets.

On Friday, Aug. 29, from noon to 2 p.m., we will reopen our online ticket website for any employee family members who also wish to buy a general admissions ticket, or to purchase one of the remaining season tickets. This site will close for game one after 2 p.m. on Aug. 29.

*Please note that all general admission ticket seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend you come early to ensure you sit with your family and friends. Expect large crowds! This won’t be like any sporting event ever held at George Fox. All attendees and their family members must have a ticket to attend the game.

Season Tickets
The best way to ensure a hassle-free seat with your name on it is to purchase season tickets here. There are only about 200 left, so act now and get them while they last!

Students
There are a limited number of student tickets that will be made available through ASC next week. Students will receive more information regarding the distribution of these tickets.

Alumni & Community Members
We will reserve some tickets for alumni and community members to purchase on game day. However, this will be a very limited number of tickets due to the number of employees and students receiving complimentary tickets.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new and exciting endeavor!

Reduce waste: Please bring your own water bottles on Serve Day

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

In light of creation care and sustainability, we would like to encourage students and faculty to bring their own water bottles on Serve Day (Wednesday, Sept. 3) in order to reduce the plastic waste at the end of the day. We ask leaders to collect and bag the plastic water bottles that do end up being used so they can be taken to FISH, where they are turned in for 5 cents each.

Let’s do our part to serve the community and the world, even as we stay hydrated on Serve Day. Thank you!
