W-2 Forms now paperless: Have you consented?

W-2 Forms are now paperless: Have you consented?

2014 year-end W-2 Forms will be issued by Friday, Jan. 30, online in “Self Service” for all employees, including student employees. If you would like to receive this form online, the law requires that you give your consent. Those who do not give consent will still receive a paper W-2. If you consented in the past, you do NOT need to do so again.

You can verify your consent status or give consent for the first time by following the steps below. It only takes about 30 seconds, so I encourage you to take care of it as soon as possible — perhaps right now? Here’s how:

  1. Log in to mygfu.georgefox.edu
  2. From the menu at left, select “Self Service”
  3. Select “Payroll and Compensation”
  4. Select “W-2/W-2c Consent”
  5. Check your current status. Does it say “Consent Received?” If so, thank you! You’re done. If it does not say “Consent Received” …
  6. Read the statement and check the box to give consent
  7. Enter your GFU password as a confirmation of your identity and click “Continue”
  8. Click “OK”

You’ll receive a confirmation email of your decision shortly after completing this process. And just to be clear, you will only have to do this once — not every year.

Thanks very much. Let me know if you have any questions.

The George Fox Auxiliary invites you to join us this Friday, Jan. 16, for a lunch featuring special guest Chris Casey, head coach of the university’s football team. The event begins at noon in the Cap and Gown Room.

Casey will provide a review of the 2014 football season, the school’s first since 1968. The cost is $8.50 at the door, and reservations must be made by the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 14, by calling or emailing Judy Woolsey at 503-538-7314 or dajuwoo@gmail.com.

Save the date: Staff lunch luau is coming Jan. 26

Sunday, January 11th, 2015

In just two short weeks, it will be time for our first staff lunch of 2015! So, please mark Monday, Jan. 26, on your calendar, when we host our second annual staff lunch luau from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room.

Dig out those Hawaiian shirts, board shorts, tropical dresses and flip flops and let’s go to the islands for a break from the madness of a new semester! Bon Appetit fixed us a fabulous Hawaiian meal last year and is poised to do everything short of digging a roast pig pit in the quad to bring some authentic Hawaiian food to campus.

If you can attend, please email Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu so they can prepare the proper quantity of food. If you have special dietary needs, please indicate that to Nadine also so that alternatives can be prepared for you.

Aloha and see you there!

Westervelt presents ‘Branding and the Bottom Line’ on Jan. 23

Sunday, January 11th, 2015

What are the secrets to unlocking a powerful brand? A free George Fox University-sponsored business seminar, “Branding and the Bottom Line,” will address the question on Friday, Jan. 23.

Hosted by the College of Business, the presentation features Rob Westervelt, executive vice president of enrollment and marketing at George Fox. Four years ago, Westervelt helped the university build a brand that has seen its net revenues grow 21 percent during a time when most universities in George Fox’s category were experiencing significant declines. The Winter Speaker Series event is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Portland Center. Complimentary coffee and tea will be provided.

As part of the presentation, Westervelt will share insights into understanding how brands are developed and destroyed. By the end of the presentation, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge to improve their company’s bottom line.

To R.S.V.P. or to learn more, go to this link. The deadline to register is Monday, Jan. 19. More information is also available by contacting Jared Roth at 503-554-6179.

Info on formal way to register complaints

Please note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, Catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

Some FoxTALE start-of-semester reminders

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Use your new, empty 2015 Spring sites as the sites in which you will teach. You may import content from another course site. See the instructions here for importing.

2015 Spring sites are currently hidden from student view. When you are ready, you can share the sites with your students. Here is a quick guide on how to make the courses available: FoxTALE Making Courses Visible to Students.

Remember that all students enrolled in your class in MyGFU will automatically be enrolled in your FoxTALE course site. As students add and drop your course in MyGFU, they will be added or removed automatically from your FoxTALE site

If your course site is set to Weekly format, your course might show incorrect dates. To change the dates, go to Administration> Edit settings on the course home page. Scroll down to the course start date, and change it to the first day of your 2015 Spring course. Scroll to the bottom of the page and “Save changes.”

Visit our FoxTALE for Faculty website for guides and resources. IT offers Faculty Development Events throughout the term that introduce university systems and how to use them. We offer both face-to-face meetings and webinars. Here is the link to the Spring 2015 list of events.

Please update your vehicle registrations now

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Staff, faculty and adjuncts: In this moment of calm before the semester starts, please take a moment and visit MyGFU to make sure your vehicle registrations are up to date. Complete instructions are on the security webpage here.

If you make any additions/changes, please email Nadine Kincaid (nkincaid@georgefox.edu) so our records can be updated, and if you have questions. If you are an adjunct on contract this year, you will need a 2015 parking permit, so please contact Nadine and check to make sure your vehicle information is up to date.

If trying to remember to switch your parking permit from vehicle to vehicle is one early-morning hassle you don’t need, additional permits are available for just $5 cash each at the security office. Email Nadine in advance, and it will be waiting for you at the office! Call 503-554-2090 during business hours for questions not addressed on our website.

If you forgot your parking permit, just come to the security office and any officer can make a gratis temporary permit for you. And a last reminder to please keep the visitor rows free in the Hoover, Stevens and VAC parking lots so our visitors to campus will feel welcomed with available parking spaces.

Thank you!
