Help create Christmas kits for refugees, foster children

Monday, November 23rd, 2015

Embrace Ministries and International Justice Mission are teaming up to gather supplies and create kits for Syrian refugee families in the Greek Isles and foster children in Yamhill County.

We will be collecting completed kits and boxes and donated supplies from now to finals week. There will also be a packing party on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bruin Den.

While you are home for the next few days, take some time to gather supplies to help refugee families and children entering the foster care system such as age-appropriate toys and toiletries. There are boxes available to fill in the SpIL Annex in the Student Union Building.

Drop off fully finished kits or individual supplies at the SpIL Annex in the SUB or in the blue bins around campus in Bauman and the Bruin Den.

For lists of supplies, go to georgefox.edu/embrace or email Mikayla (mgreenwell12@georgefox.edu) or Grace (glownsbery12@georgefox.edu).

All invited to join in MLK Day of Service on Jan. 18

Your chance to get involved with our neighboring community is finally here, with the opportunity to be a part of MLK Day of Service in Portland!

MLK Day of Service is a day we are able to live into this vision Dr. King had for serving and justice. Though one day of service is never enough to fully celebrate him or what he stood for, we hope you are able to join us for this day of service and recognition of Dr. King.

MLK Day of Service takes place on Monday, Jan. 18. You can register and find more information about what the day will look like here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

Ceramic artist is tonight’s guest at Art Talk

Sunday, November 22nd, 2015

Tonight (Monday) in the Chehalem Cultural Center’s ballroom, the Art Talk program will host Sunshine Cobb, a utilitarian ceramic artist who has been working in ceramics for 15 years. She has done everything from eight-day anagama wood firings to slip castings. She focuses her talent on functional ware, embracing the richness of earthenware, and is currently exploring the challenge of electrogama (electric firing).

Come to the Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.) tonight at 6 p.m. to hear about Sunshine’s artwork and processes. Hope to see you there!

Questions? Contact Annie Lunt at alunt13@georgefox.edu.

Join us for bread making, Shalom service Tuesday

Sunday, November 22nd, 2015

Be sure to join us in Shalom tomorrow (Tuesday) as we celebrate God’s goodness in an Ebenezer service at 9 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room.

This is a great way to explore how our forebears have engaged in thankfulness and celebration throughout history, as well as engaging with community in a wonderful time for worship. Students can also get some of that elective chapel credit. Don’t miss it!

Also, at 6 p.m. in Lewis 1 on Tuesdays before Shalom, we’re teaching artisan bread making! The bread we share in Shalom every week is handmade by students, and we have a great time enjoying community and learning this skill. Now, we want to share that experience with you! Be sure to take advantage of this awesome opportunity.

Questions? Contact Amanda Kitz at akitz13@georgefox.edu.

Mail and print services’ holiday schedule

Thursday, November 19th, 2015

Mail and print services will be on a reduced schedule during the holiday break. Please take note of the hours below:

Print services will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24, through Friday, Jan. 1. Please plan accordingly for your printing needs.

Mail services will be open limited hours during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. On Dec. 29 and 30, the hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. U.S. Mail will be the only service offered for those two days, so if you need to send mail or packages through U.S. Mail, you must have your items to mail services no later than noon. Anything after noon will need to be taken to the downtown post office.

In addition, mail services will not be getting delivery or pickup services from UPS, FedEx and DHL. Therefore, if you have any packages you want sent via UPS, FedEx or DHL, we recommend you take your packages to the “Mailroom,” located in the Springbrook shopping center. They will happily take care of your shipping needs.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Richard Silver at rsilver@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2551.

Happy holidays to you all!
