The Students for Life Club is sponsoring a panel on open adoption with panelists Jere Witherspoon, Joe Thouvenel and Emily-Alena Elder at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, in Hoover 103. Are all welcome to join us!

Kris Kays will also be there helping facilitate and giving a clinical perspective to the adoption process. Come hear these stories regarding adoption and learn more about the differences of open and closed adoption. Snacks will be provided.

Plan to attend spring drama ‘Our Town’ in April

Make plans now to attend the theatre department’s production of  the classic Thornton Wilder drama Our Town.

Student tickets are free both Thursdays, April 5 and April 12. Your ticket must be in your own name, and be sure to bring your student ID to the door. Employees are provided with one complimentary ticket for any of the shows.

The show runs in Wood-Mar Auditorium April 5-7 and April 12-14 at 7:30 p.m., and will also include a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 15. Reserve your seat online and bring your George Fox ID with you to show at the door. You may also purchase additional tickets online. Tickets are also available for pick-up at the box office in the Bruin Store (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

Founder of architectural firm speaks at Art Talk Monday

Interested in architecture? Join us this Monday, March 19, as the founder of an architectural firm, Otto Lundberg, speaks at Art Talk at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.). The free presentation runs from 6 to 7 p.m.

Lundberg will speak about his firm and the steps it took to create it. Lundberg Design is an 18-person architectural firm serving clients throughout the U.S. While the core of the practice is architectural, the firm is  committed to providing high-end, modern design at many levels. Lundberg Design’s signature style tends to be characterized by sculptural form, simply and elegantly executed, with a strong belief in the importance of carefully thought-out details.

Support PT students’ trip to Africa by eating at Taqueria Kopitos Tuesday

Taqueria Kopitos in downtown Newberg has agreed to do a fundraiser all day on Tuesday, March 20 (“Taco Tuesday”) to help the university’s physical therapy program raise money for a serve trip to Africa!

Twenty percent of the day’s proceeds will be donated to our cause, so come out and get some great authentic Mexican food while helping us reach our goal! We appreciate your help.

University Advancement is pleased to offer an estate planning workshop on Thursday, April 5, at noon in Roberts Center 117. A light lunch of soup and salad will be served.

Gene Christian, a George Fox alumnus and the university’s planned giving director, will present the tools and techniques necessary to develop a loving, tax-efficient estate distribution plan. If you need further direction with your estate plan, Gene will be available after the workshop to set up individual meetings.

There is no cost to you for either the lunch workshop or the individual meeting with Gene. Get CPR/First Aid/AED training during spring break

Spring break is a great time to get trained in CPR, First Aid, and AED usage! Only three spots remain in the class to be held on Thursday, March 29, so sign up as soon as possible on the Security Services website to secure your spot!

The class will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Newberg campus, but Portland students and employees are also welcome to sign up!

Free Jazz Dialogues event plays tonight in Bauman Auditorium

The university community is invited to a free Jazz Dialogues Concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Bauman Auditorium.

This is our third annual unique, interdisciplinary presentation. This year’s lecture/recital is entitled “Jazz Dialogues: Storytime and All That Jazz.” It features a lecture and children’s book readings by Beth LaForce, professor of education, assisted by elementary education students, and performances by the university’s Jazz Ensemble, which will play the music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk and more.

Memorial service for R. Dale Orkney set for April 14 on campus

The university community is invited to a memorial service for former faculty member R. Dale Orkney on Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. in Lemmons 8. A reception will follow in the EHS atrium.

Orkney began at George Fox in 1963 and for 40 years helped direct the school’s science program. He was granted faculty emeritus in 1998.
