Doubles pickleball league starting up at Hadlock Student Center

The Hadlock Student Center is hosting a doubles pickleball league! It will run Tuesday, Sept. 18, to Thursday, Oct. 18. The league is open for sign-ups in IMLeagues, so go find a partner and sign up!

The state of recycling at George Fox: Join in discussion Sept. 24

Have you noticed changes occurring in how we are recycling as a university? Are you curious what led to these changes and how we are seeking to recycle in the future? Do you have some thoughts or ideas about recycling that you would like to dialogue around?

If so, join us for a meeting from 5 to 5:40 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, in EHS 102. The meeting will include a 20-minute presentation on the state of recycling at George Fox, followed by about 20 minutes of question-and-answer time and open dialogue.

All are welcome and encouraged to bring questions and ideas! If you have any questions about this event, or if you are not able to make this meeting but have some questions regarding recycling on campus, you can email Trevor Woods at twoods@georgefox.edu.

Latinx Heritage Club, intercultural life invite you to Koinonia Sept. 20

Did you know Saturday, Sept. 15, is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month? To kick off this celebration, the intercultural life office will be partnering with our Latinx Heritage Club to do Koinonia at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, in Canyon Commons 103!

We will have worship, good food and engage in conversations about immigration. We would love for you to join us! All we ask is that you bring your culture and be ready to learn about others. Elective chapel credit will be offered for this event.

Politics department hosts two guest speakers next week

The campus community is invited to a free Constitution Day address, “The Bible and the American Constitutional Tradition,” by guest speaker Daniel L. Dreisbach this Monday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Dreisbach is a professor in the School of Public Affairs at American University. He earned a doctor of philosophy degree from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia. He has authored or edited 10 books, including, most recently, Reading the Bible with the Founding Fathers.

Also next week, a second talk, “Liberty, License, and Virtuous Self-Government in John Milton’s Writings,” will be presented by David Urban, an English professor from Calvin College, on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. Urban has written and edited numerous works about Milton.

Registration is open for Wilderness First Aid course

Campus Recreation is hosting a Wilderness First Aid course on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28. The cost is $100 for George Fox students, $150 for staff/faculty and $225 for all others. Space in the class is limited, so please register early if interested.

Donation locations set up to give to Door to Grace

Turnitin maintenance scheduled on Sept. 22

Turnitin will be performing a scheduled maintenance update on Saturday, Sept. 22, and Turnitin services will be temporarily unavailable from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (PDT) that day.

In FoxTALE Assignments that are using Turnitin, instructors are encouraged to check submission due dates to make sure assignments are not due during the Turnitin Sept. 22 maintenance update.

All other FoxTALE services will operate as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Men’s soccer team opens conference play at home

Come watch your Bruins as the men’s soccer team opens conference play tonight (Friday) at 7:30 p.m. with a rivalry game against Whitworth, followed by Whitman on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be at the Austin Sports Complex.

With a concession stand and the team currently playing some sweet soccer, an enjoyable time should be had by all.

Free concert with Kings Kaleidoscope is tonight in Bauman Auditorium

Tonight (Friday), student activities is hosting the band Kings Kaleidoscope in Bauman Auditorium at 8 p.m.! Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Following the concert, at 11 p.m., there will be a campfire in the fire pit pavilion across campus! Be sure to make both!

George Fox is hosting Anglican Bishop Todd Hunter for a compelling lecture: “Taking Jesus Serious: A Teaching on Mark 1:14-15.” Join us after work today (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. in Hoover 105. Chapel credit is available to all students who attend.

Todd is the founding bishop of The Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others and founding pastor of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Costa Mesa, California. He is author of Christianity Beyond Belief: Following Jesus for the Sake of Others, Giving Church Another Chance, The Outsider Interviews, The Accidental Anglican, and Our Favorite Sins.
