University staff on Friday became aware that over a week ago someone anonymously left vulgar and highly offensive messages on a whiteboard in a campus classroom. We want to remind our community that language and/or behavior that relies on negative stereotypes or is demeaning toward individuals or groups is absolutely unacceptable for George Fox students and employees, whether it occurs in person, through social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) or anonymously.
Violations of these expectations are taken very seriously by the university, especially when directed at another because of their race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, or disabilities. We want to remind everyone that George Fox has harassment, discrimination, and bias-related incident policies that can be viewed here.
Any incidents of harassment, discrimination or bias should be reported immediately to the student life office. We would also encourage community members to hold one another accountable for what we say and do in this important area.

This next week, we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
This is an annual celebration where we promote communities to join in the effort to celebrate girls and women to participate in sports, knowing that the skills, confidence, strength and character gained through sports is what helps us make us all great leaders!
We will be hosting our fourth annual NGWSD coach panel discussion at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Canyon Commons 101-102. Join us for an evening of discussion led by our panel guests, Laura Schott (women’s soccer), Emily Davis (volleyball), Carol Laube (baseball) and Jen Burke (lacrosse).
Snacks, chapel credit and special giveaways will be included!
This event is open to everyone, not just women. It will be a great evening of discussions about how sports have helped lead them forward in all areas of life. We look forward to seeing you there!
Some questions include:
- As athletes and women, we all face tough situations. What was a difficult event in your life and how did you trust in God to get you through it?
- Did you have your life figured out upon graduation? What noticeable growth did you go through after graduating?
- How may a team environment help you grow in your faith?
- What do you think are collective goals for us as women in sport to further our success and continue growing our presence as athletes/coaches? How should we be focused on growing/honoring women in sports?
- What was the process like letting go of your role as an athlete?

Did you know that the Maker Hub has a bead roller?
The Maker Hub’s Mittler Brothers Bead Roller is located in the Machine Shop and is used for forming and reinforcing sheet metal. This machine works best when operated by two people, one person to turn the handle and another to guide the metal. It works by placing metal between the rollers (dies). The material is then formed to give extra strength and rigidity.
The bead roller can also be used to create artistic patterns on sheet metal. There are many different types of rollers to use, and they can be changed out depending on the needed application. Check out this video to see how it works!
The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.
Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

If you have concerns about a student in the traditional undergraduate program, log into Fox360 at Fox360.georgefox.edu to submit an “alert” for the student. Submit alerts for concerns in the following areas:
- Academic: Missing multiple classes; consistently poor academic performance
- Behavioral: Concerning or disruptive behaviors in or outside of class, missing work
- Emotional: Mental health concerns; unusual emotional expression
- Physical: Medical concerns; extreme changes in grooming, personal care
- Social: Personal, social, or family concerns that are affecting well-being and performance
If a student is enrolled in your course but hasn’t attended class or engaged in GFD online activity, submit an alert. Student employee supervisors and other non-faculty are invited to submit alerts with concerns for the reasons above. We trust those submitting an alert have attempted to make contact, and either have not been able to connect with the student or believe additional outreach is needed.
The Student Support Network will assign a case manager to follow up with students. Case managers will do our best to give updates to faculty and employees who submit alerts or provide feedback. You are welcome to contact Jere Witherspoon (jwithers@georgefox.edu) or me to inquire about the status of a student.
This Fox360 Quick Guide provides a visual overview of the Fox360 system; more details about using Fox360 are available in this Google Doc.
If you have questions or would like more information regarding Fox360, contact Rick Muthiah at 503-554-2314 or rmuthiah@georgefox.edu.
