In the best interest of the university, all painting is to be evaluated and completed by Plant Services. Painting is done on a cyclical basis. Requests for painting will be placed on the schedule according to the discretion of the paint department. To have your painting need evaluated, a work request can be submitted with the approval of the building monitor. Each request is evaluated against the condition of the rest of the campus before painting commences to make sure that decent areas are not taking precedence over areas that are in poor condition. There is a palette of colors available for discussion.
Painting that is requested which falls outside the parameters of normal maintenance cycles will be evaluated by Plant Services and may be charged to the requesting department. Wall finishes other than paint also require review and approval by Plant Services. Outside contractors may be retained and will be supervised by Plant Services.
In student housing, when a transition of residents occurs, the campus painter in consultation with the superintendent of building repair and the director of housing will determine whether a location should be painted before the maintenance cycle requires that it be done.

Clint Baldwin (Political Science) will make an opening statement, followed by an introduction by President Robin Baker. Presenters will be Lisa McMinn (Sociology) and Mark McMinn (Psychology).
The symposium will explore and celebrate the diversity of approaches for exemplifying Christ’s all-inclusive call to peace and justice in our lives.

Multicultural Services will host a trip to Portland State University to hear civil rights pioneer Marian Wright Edelman on Thursday, Jan. 17. A van will leave the Stevens Center parking lot in Newberg at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. lecture, held in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Wright Edelman, president of the Children’s Defense Fund, has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans her entire professional life. She began her career in the mid-’60s when, as the first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, she directed the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund office in Jackson, Miss. In 1968, she was counsel for the Poor People’s Campaign that King began organizing before his death.

Multicultural Services will host a Faith and Film event featuring the movie Amazing Grace, based on the inspiring true life story of British antislavery pioneer William Wilberforce.
The film will be shown 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Hoover 105.

A fund has been established for the creation of a Colleen Richmond Memorial Scholarship. Colleen, a former associate professor in the Department of Writing and Literature, passed away in January 2007, and this scholarship intends to honor her memory and the students she loved.
The scholarship will be awarded yearly to a writing/literature major with particular interest in international literature and gender studies; Colleen was passionate about both areas in her research and her teaching. We will begin awarding the scholarship for the 2009-10 school year. If you are interested in contributing to this fund, please contact Nancy Almquist (Development) at ext. 2120.

Both candidates will speak for about 20 minutes on the topic “From what you know or have learned about George Fox University, how would you approach marketing the university and its programs?†A question-and-answer time will follow. All faculty and staff members are invited.

Missions Week is scheduled Jan. 14-16. Dr. Samuel Kamaleson, vice-president-at-large of World Vision and co-founder of Friends Prayer Band of India, will be speaking in chapel Monday and Wednesday. This is a reminder that Friday, Jan. 11, is the last day to return books at the University Store’s textbook annex, unless you are dropping a class. You must have a receipt for proof of purchase. It’s also the last day to use the price-matching program.
Bookstore hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, this week and next. The next Saturday opening will be Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You are invited to an opening reception for “Legacy: Ceramic works from prominent Northwest artists and their collections” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Minthorne Gallery (Hoover). The collection of ceramic artwork includes priceless historical artifacts as well as works from internationally prominent contemporary artists. The exhibit runs through Feb. 1.
