Jamie Tworkowski, founder of “To Write Love on Her Arms,” will be joining us in chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will also be a talk-back session in the Bruin Den Annex from noon to 1 p.m. Also, Jamie will present a 7 p.m. session that night in Bauman Auditorium (spiritual formation credit is offered).
To Write Love on Her Arms is a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.

The all-employee meeting set for this Thursday, Sept. 24, will begin 15 minutes earlier than originally scheduled, at 3:45 p.m. Snacks will be served beforehand for attendees to enjoy during the meeting. It will convene in Hoover 105 until 5 p.m.
For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available for viewing at stream.georgefox.edu/live/commmtg.sdp. For best results, use Mozilla Firefox for your web browser, and your computer must have QuickTime Player installed. Simply copy the link into the address bar of your browser. The group Timothy’s Charge has arranged the reading sessions in the quad from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day through Friday. President Robin Baker kicked off the event Monday. A weekend relationship retreat sponsored by the Office of Spiritual Life, “Growing a Healthy Relationship,” is open to any married, engaged or seriously dating couple (non-GFU students may come if accompanied by a current student). It is scheduled Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3, in Lincoln City.
The cost is $15 per person (includes lodging and three meals). Registration forms are available in the Office of Spiritual Life. The sign-up deadline is Friday, Sept. 18 by 5 p.m. (form and money are to be turned in to the spiritual life office; if no one is up front, you can just leave the form on the front desk).

Caitlin Corning (History) will share pedagogical reasons she incorporates technology into her courses at a Faculty Teaching Forum from 12:40 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in Cap and Gown A (note the different location than on the academic calendar). Caitlin will also demonstrate some of the educational technology she uses. Participants will have opportunity to discuss how and why they use (or don’t use) various technologies for their courses.
To reserve a lunch, e-mail Jere Witherspoon (jwithers@georgefox.edu) by 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21. Everyone is welcome to attend the session, whether bringing a lunch or reserving a lunch. Please have your lunch ready so we can begin the conversation at noon.

The Philosophy Club is welcoming three speakers who will address the usefulness of arguments for and against Christian faith. James White, Matt Slick and Dan Barker will take part in a panel discussion, “The Value of Apologetics,” beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, in Hoover 105.
The following day, Saturday, Sept. 26, they will debate Christian belief at Newberg Christian Church at an all-day event (9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.). The cost to attend Saturday’s event is $10 for students. Newberg Christian Church is located at 2315 Villa Road.

Do you attend church outside of Newberg? If so, we need your help. The Office of Spiritual Life and Northwest Yearly Meeting are sponsoring an upcoming conference, The New Abolitionists, on Oct. 24. This will be a day conference focusing on how to end sex trafficking in Portland (you will be hearing more information soon about the conference).
We need help getting the word out to our surrounding communities. If you attend church outside of Newberg and are willing to put up a poster at your church, please stop by our office to pick one up. Daystar, located in Nairobi, Kenya, is operated through the Christian College Consortium and has partnered with George Fox to provide study-abroad opportunities for students.

Your e-mail should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s contribution(s) to the university, its students, and/or its employees in the past 30 days or so (what was done, who was impacted, etc.), and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.
Please submit your nomination by Friday, Sept 18. The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select the Employee(s) of the Month from the nominations submitted. The winner(s) will be announced at the all-employee meeting on Thursday, Sept 24, and will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Jory Restaurant at the new Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg.
