Tickets for “All is Calm, All is Bright,” the university’s Christmas concert, will go on sale in the Bruin Bookstore beginning Monday, Nov. 23. Employees may receive their complimentary ticket at that time. Tickets are available for purchase online now (with a service fee), but comp tickets are available only in the bookstore.

Because there are no “bad” seats in Bauman Auditorium, we will not make special allowances for employees wanting tickets early. Mark your calendar to get your tickets on  Nov. 23 to attend this wonderful Christmas event, to be presented on campus Dec. 11-12 and at Village Baptist Church in Beaverton Dec. 13. Aimee Smith (oboe/English horn) will present her senior degree recital at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 13, in Bauman Auditorium. Also performing will be Matt Hill (trumpet), Barbara Stewart (piano) and Debi Huddleston (organ). Admission is free. Reception to follow.

Author Margaret Feinberg, named by Charisma magazine as one of the “30 emerging voices who will help lead the church in the next decade,” will speak at George Fox Evangelical Seminary from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Portland Center.

Feinberg’s presentation, “The Church’s Missional Witness in a Millennial Age,” is the latest installment of the seminary’s Ministry in Contemporary Culture Seminar series. The session will address how the church interacts with culture and offer insight into how Christians can reach the next generation.

The event also will include a panel discussion featuring six panelists of local church leaders who will give their perspectives and insights on the topic at hand. Feinberg also will present a second session, titled “Backstage Pass: A Toolbox of Ideas for Reaching the Next Generation.”

Feinberg has written more than two dozen books and Bible studies, including The Organic God, The Sacred Echo, Scouting the Divine and their corresponding DVD Bible studies.

The seminar will meet in Room 155 of the Portland Center. Admission is $20 for university students, employees and alumni. An optional deli lunch will be available on site for $10. Attend a hands-on resume workshop scheduled 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Stevens 220, and develop the skills to write resumes that connect with employers. The Bruin Heritage Society is looking for fully committed, spirited and passionate students who will bring an “insane atmosphere” to the sidelines at all home basketball games. Those interested must bring an enthusiasm to the gym that will make the opposition scared to play in the confines of Miller Gymnasium.

A meeting to discuss this “courtside chaos” plan is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in Hoover 105. This meeting is for anyone and everyone who wants to see this happen.

The Department of Performing Arts will host a Fall Chamber Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in Bauman Auditorium.

The concert will include performances by the university’s trumpet quartet, handbell ringers and saxophone, string, flute, clarinet, keyboard and early-music ensembles. The event is free and seating is open.

Among the pieces to be performed are “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” (Bach), “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (Mozart), “Agnus Dei” (Hans Leo Hassler) and “Amazing Grace.”

The campus community is invited to morning prayer each weekday from 8 to 8:25 a.m. in the Prayer Chapel. Come to pray, participate in a time of liturgy from the Book of Common Prayer (no experience required!), and to begin your day in the Word.

For students, a half chapel credit is available for each attendance.

ASC is hosting a town hall meeting to discuss and hear students’ opinions on the potential plan of a fire pit on campus. Come listen and let us hear your voice from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Cap and Gown Room.

Online registration for the upcoming Intercultural Conference on campus is now live. Sponsored by multicultural student programs and the Multicultural Club, the free event is scheduled Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14. The deadline to register and receive meals is Monday, Nov. 9. Sign-ups with no meals will occur through the conference.

The event is a student-led initiative. Students would like the support of administrators and employees, as it is for the entire George Fox community. Shereen Sherman, president of the Multicultural Club, and 40 student volunteers are planning it.

The purpose of the conference is to highlight the diversity of God’s kingdom through cultural awareness, mosaic worship, and active discussions on how to bring together the body of Christ. Through encouraging open dialogue and providing a welcoming atmosphere, the hope is to bridge gaps between people and cultures.

We are currently considering moving to a password-protected electronic version of the Bruin Directory instead of printing a hard copy. The electronic version would be available on computers connected to the Internet. It would have all of the same information as the current Bruin Directory and would be searchable.

The university community is invited to a free concert, “An Evening of Jazz,” featuring jazz vocalist Madeline Eastman at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Bauman Auditorium. The event will feature the George Fox Jazz Band and the Faculty Jazz Trio.

Eastman is acclaimed as “a consummate, inventive, entertaining artist at work” by the L.A. Times, which touts her as “a prime example of what jazz singing in the 21st century can be.” She has released six studio records and one live album and has toured throughout the United States and Europe.

The concert is part of the university’s Family Weekend, which invites parents and extended family members to experience campus life Friday through Sunday.

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the university will host a second free concert. Featuring the George Fox Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale and Symphonic Band, the event is scheduled at 4 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

These are the final home games of the fall sports seasons. The volleyball team is in contention for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, which will announce its 62-team field Monday morning at 8 a.m. Pacific time via the Internet at ncaasports.com.
