Biomechanics and volleyball discussed today in EHS 102
Volleyball’s rise in popularity over the past 30 years has created a growing need to better understand the biomechanical causes for shoulder injuries, particularly in youth volleyball players.
The biomedical engineering program is inviting a candidate to speak to how their research lab uses motion capture to analyze the mechanics of hitting a volleyball with the goal of creating better best-practices guidelines for strength and conditioning and repetition counts.
Join us from 3 to 4 p.m. today (Thursday) in EHS 102 to hear about several ongoing experiments in the lab, including using impulse and momentum techniques to estimate the forces on the body during a hit and ways to compare variation in types of motions. The presentation will highlight connections between the undergraduate engineering curriculum and the research techniques.
