Auxiliary hosts special luncheons this semester

The George Fox Auxiliary invites the university community to a series of luncheons in the coming months featuring the theme “George Fox Alumni Serving in the World.” Each session will feature a special speaker who relates to the topic, with meetings set to be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Canyon Commons dining hall.

The series, which began in the fall, continues this Friday, Jan. 12, when guest Lon Fendall, an associate professor emeritus of history and political science, will discuss Mark Hatfield and his work in politics. Fendall formerly worked as an assistant to Hatfield, a two-term Oregon governor and a U.S. senator for 30 years who, after retiring from politics, taught classes at George Fox from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s.

Later this spring, on Friday, March 2, the auxiliary will host Jon and Marita Bishop, two 1967 George Fox graduates who have spent 40 years doing medial missions work all over the world. They are currently training family practice physicians in Afghanistan.

Finally, on Wednesday, May 2, professional musician Wendy Clark Goodwin, a 2000 George Fox alumna, will speak about her experiences.

The cost to attend is $10 per person, and payment may be made at the door. Reservations are preferred and can by arranged by calling Judy Woolsey at 971-832-1505.
