Active Shooter/Emergency Training available now

Employees and students: With the tragedy in Roseburg heavy on our hearts and minds, it is a good time to review our Active Shooter Protocol and to also review some of the other available emergency resources.

  • Here is a link to our Active Shooter Protocol as found underneath the Emergency Response Plan on the George Fox website. Please also consider scheduling an Active Shooter Training with your department, building or residence that will show you what to do in your building should the unthinkable happen. This can be done by contacting Ed Gierok, director of security. Part one of the training consists of a video, a recap of what to do, and a Q&A. Then, an actual active shooter training scenario happens in your building where, in a moment, you can decide on how to escape the threat, find a place to hide, or know what to do if you can’t escape. This is invaluable training, as those who have gone through it were grateful for learning what to do in such situations.
  • In addition, each classroom on campus has a yellow Emergency Response Guide mounted on the wall by an exit door. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the contents, and also the map of the exits that are hand-tailored for every classroom on campus. Department offices should also have an orange Emergency Response Guide visible at the main reception desk. The section on Active Shooter is underneath the “Crime/Violence/Armed Intruder” tab.
  • Lastly, George Fox has an emergency alert system called “Fox Alert.” In the event of an actual emergency, you will receive a text alert. One test has already been conducted this fall, so if you did not receive a text alert then, please make sure your cell phone is listed as a primary contact number in your personal information on MyGFU. When you are in class, leave your phone on vibrate so that you will be alerted to any emergency information from Fox Alert.
