Music producer speaks tonight in LACI lecture

Join us for a Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation in Hoover 105 tonight (Monday), when Chris Kirkley, a music producer with Sahel Sounds, presents “Saharan MP3s to Vinyl Records: Sharing Music Across Cultures.” The same presentation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to attend the later session.

The presentation will draw on Kirkley’s collaborations with musicians in West Africa and discuss the challenges inherent in cultural exchange. He will also discuss how, in an increasingly digital world, cheap technologies are opening up new means of production and distribution of global music. His presentation is the sixth in the “Majority World and the West” series.
