Paul Anderson (Christian Studies) wrote a forward to the reissued A Place to Stand, Elton Trueblood’s classic text that was released in e-book form by HarperOne last month. In his forward, Paul describes the importance of the book as a defense of “Basic Christianity,” a challenge to secularism and atheism arguing that Christ is the center of certitude for believing and knowing about God. Paul also wrote the forward to Rudolf Bultmann’s book The Gospel of John: A Commentary. Paul describes the book as “a provocative commentary that is arguably the most important New Testament monograph in the 20th century, perhaps second only to The Quest of the Historical Jesus by Albert Schweitzer.” The book is the first volume in the new Johannine Monograph Series that Alan Culpepper and Paul are editing.

Yune Tran (Education) attended the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities’ mixed-gender Leadership Development Institute training event at Cedar Springs Christian Retreat Center in Sumas, Wash., in June. Designed to strengthen leadership within Christian higher education, the institute featured the latest leadership research and literature and drew upon the experiences and best practices from cabinet-level leaders and other leadership experts.

Ed Higgins (English) published his poems “I Cut Myself” and “To Do Reminders” in the July 20, 2014, issue of Melancholy Hyperbole, an online poetry e-zine dedicated to poetry about longing. In addition, Ed’s poems “Faith Story” and “ok, ok, so I concede” are included in the Summer 2014 issue of the Blue Heron Review, an online poetry magazine specializing in mystical and spiritual verse.

Jim Steele (College of Business) will travel to Alexandria, Va., in mid-August to serve on the selection committee for the Michael R. Losey Research Award, an honor that recognizes an individual for significant past and ongoing research contributions that impact the HR management field. The award carries with it a $50,000 grant from the Society for Human Resource Management. Jim’s participation is part of his scholarship, as it requires him to assess the scholarly contribution of nominees’ entire body of work.

Marc Zimmerman’s (ADP) autobiography, Mostly Momentous Minutes, Mawkish Memories, and Myopic Musings of Marc from Maine: Stories of life from the Moose State and Beyond (Kindle Edition), is now available on Amazon.com.

Gary Tandy (English) lectured recently at Friendsview Retirement Community on “The Life and Imagination of C. S. Lewis.”
