Kevin T. Jones (Communication Arts) and Carol Brazo (Education) published “Cultivating a community of truth through critical pedagogy when faced with resistance: teaching my gender students how to “ride the busâ€â€ in the March 2014 edition of the International Journal of Innovation, Education and Research, published in the United Kingdom. The essay explores how to face resistance from students in the classroom on controversial topics through critical pedagogy.
Kevin also took five communication arts students to present research papers at the Northwest Communication Association annual conference April 17-19, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Junior Zach Baker presented his essay “Using LMX Theory to examine group experience and trust.” Juniors Ariel Hortert and Allison Walsh presented their paper on “Recognition of non-verbal warmth, self-disclosure and the effect on closeness in various relationships.†Jones served as critic and responded to a panel titled “Rhetorical agents of change.†Also attending the conference were sophomore Bethany Widdicombe and first-year student LaQuae Aughtman.
Two of Ed Higgins’ (English) poems, “To Do Reminders“ and “the dung beetle,†are published in the April issue of Gutter Eloquence, an online poetry journal.
Steve Sherwood (Christian Studies) wrote a blog post, “The Anointing at Bethany and the Internet Age,†for the Missio Alliance’s website, appearing on April 16.
