Mark Ankeny discusses school’s early history at Friday lunch
The university’s Auxiliary will present the third installment of its lunch lecture series “Reflections on Pacific College/GFC/GFU’s HisÂtory†at noon tomorrow (Friday) in the Cap and Gown Room.
Longtime professor and 1975 George Fox alumnus Mark Ankeny, who has also served as the dean of the College of Education at both Pacific University and Westminster College (Utah), will discuss the early history of Pacific College/George Fox College.
Among the topics to be covered are the college’s vision for a Quaker school, the presidencies of Levi Pennington (1911-1941) and Emmett Gulley (1941-1947), and how the college survived during its early period.
Cost for lunch is $8.50 and must be paid at the door. Reservations, which can be made by calling Judy Woolsey at 503-538-7314, are required.
The next installment of the series, in which David Le Shana will cover the period between 1969 and 1982, is scheduled for Friday, March 14. The series will conclude May 9 with reflections on the 1980s and 1990s from Barry Hubbell.
