Music department hosts two concerts this Saturday
The university’s music department invites everyone to a pair of concerts scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26, in Bauman Auditorium.
Family Weekend Concert
At 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, the school’s Chamber Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Ensemble, Concert Choir and Symphonic Band will perform a Family Weekend Concert as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend festivities. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Selections will include Bach’s Chorale-Prelude (Chamber Choir), Dvorak’s Musica Dei Donum Optimi (Women’s Chorale), Handel’s How Excellent Thy Name (Concert Choir), Mozart’s Quartet for Flute, Violin, Viola and Violoncello in D Major (Chamber Ensemble) and Edwin Eugene Bagley’s National Emblem March (Symphonic Band).
‘Evening of Jazz’ Concert
That evening, at 7:30 p.m., the university will host its annual “Evening of Jazz,†concert, featuring trombonist Wycliffe Gordon in concert with the George Fox Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Trio. Gordon is described as “an energetic performer, a prolific composer and arranger.†He is a former member of both the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, leads the Wycliffe Gordon Quartet, and has recorded 13 solo CDs and seven co-leader CDs.
Students and employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket to the jazz concert. Additional tickets are $7 per person and may be either purchased at the door or online at music.georgefox.edu.
