Operation ‘Be Known-Be Safe’: The Emergency Response and Pre-Evacuation Drill Mini-Challenge
Whether you’re a seasoned academic building survivalist or someone whose fire drill strategy usually involves hiding under their desk and hoping it’s a false alarm, the university’s Safety Committee has a brief reality check for you. We’re launching the Pre-Evacuation Drill Mini-Challenge – a high-stakes, low-effort test of your emergency preparedness skills.
No, you don’t need to scale the clock tower or do a 50-yard dash past the Mama Bear statue. You just need to show us you actually know where your nearest exit is (and that your evacuation plan involves more than just bringing your favorite mug).
Our incentive? We want to encourage you to be proactive. You are responsible for your safety and the safety of those near you. Our job is to help you access that information. Learn before the alarm goes off or you need safety equipment.
How to Enter
- Print and complete the official mini-challenge checklist at this link, fill out your answers, and make sure your name is legible.
- Fold it, pop it in campus mail, and direct it to Safety Committee Box 6443. (Yes, actual campus mail; think of it as retro emergency communication practice).
- Deadline: Drop it in the mail slot by Oct. 2. One-week blitz, so don’t delay!
What’s in it for you?
Besides the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing you won’t accidentally trap yourself in the creepiest-in-the-dark-with-fire-doors-slammed-shut building during a drill, every completed challenge dropped into Box 6443 enters you into a raffle for campus prizes. Departments are encouraged to challenge other departments for the most members submitting forms.
