Some strategies for supporting your students through finals

As we head into Week 14, many students are feeling the pressure of upcoming finals. You can help them transition from passive reviewing to active mastery by sharing research-backed strategies. If you notice students struggling to connect with the material or expressing exam anxiety, consider pointing them toward the “Test Prep Like a Champ” framework.

Key concepts you can share with your students:

  • Explain to Retain: Encourage students to move beyond rereading. If they can’t explain a concept to a peer, they haven’t mastered it yet.
  • Retrieval over Review: Suggest they swap highlighting for self-testing. Studying shouldn’t stop when they get a question right, but when they can’t get it wrong.

Download this Test Prep Like a Champ Flyer to share with your classes, and direct students to the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for one-on-one academic coaching and writing support.
