Prepare for finals with resources from the ARC
Stop rereading and start remembering! With finals just around the corner, don’t waste your limited study hours on strategies that don’t stick.
If you’ve ever stayed up half the night studying only to blank during the exam, it might be your strategy, not your effort. To test prep like a champ, swap passive reading for retrieval practice. Don’t just test yourself until you get it right, but until you can’t get it wrong. And if you can accurately explain it to others, then you truly know it.
Here are two finals week strategies to try:
- Read before you write. On a high-stakes final, it’s easy to rush. Pause and think before you answer to avoid avoidable mistakes.
- Never give up. If a question stumps you, mark it and move on. Give your brain time to process in the background, then come back to it before you turn in your exam.
To help you form your finals game plan, download the Test Prep Like a Champ Flyer and visit the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for more research-backed tips and one-on-one support as you prepare for finals.
