Learn about starting a Food Recovery Network chapter at George Fox

Wednesday, October 14th, 2026

The Food Recovery Network is the largest student-led movement against hunger and climate change in the country, supporting a network of 200-plus student chapters on college and university campuses across the U.S.

Student leaders in the Food Recovery Network contribute to the food waste elimination movement by recovering surplus food from their dining halls and other food venues, advocating for a more sustainable and equitable food system, and engaging meaningfully within their communities.

Together, we can not only find ways to recover surplus food, but also to learn about the environmental impacts of food waste and its contribution to climate change, and to develop the skills to lead efforts to address the causes and challenges of food waste.

If you want to learn more about starting a Food Recovery Network chapter at George Fox, you are invited to come to a meeting on Friday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Bruin Community Pantry. Lunch will be provided.

Participate in a campus-wide earthquake drill this morning at 10:15 a.m.

Wednesday, October 14th, 2026

We live in an active seismic zone. October is Emergency Preparedness Month, and during this time we practice the proper response to ensure that when a real earthquake strikes, our immediate instinct is to protect ourselves and effectively prevent injury.

So this year get ready to drop, cover, and hold on during the Great ShakeOut!

How to participate:

At 10:15 a.m. this morning, stop what you are doing and get under a table or desk. Cover your head with your arms or hands. If you are in the quad, move away from buildings toward the center of the quad. If you are in a lab, turn off the gas and get down.

Think and practice what you would need to do if we were to experience an earthquake for one minute. These steps increase your chances of surviving if a real earthquake strikes.

If you have questions on how to participate in the Great Shakeout, reach out to Kim Knoernschild at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.
