Update regarding food resources from the Oregon Food Bank

Thursday, June 26th, 2025

Due to changes in food manufacturing, tariffs, and cuts to funding for food by the federal government, drastic changes are coming for all food pantries in the U.S., including the Bruin Community Pantry.

Several regional food banks are suspending some of their programs and partners. There just isn’t enough food supply to go around. In the past, YCAP brought in 40,000 pounds of food from the Oregon Food Bank each week. Today, they bring in 16,700 pounds on average, and yet, the number of pantries (food partners) has doubled.

We’ve been informed that we’ll need to change the way we manage the Bruin Community Pantry. While we’re still considering our options, these are some of the ideas we’re considering:

  • Reduce the number of hours we are open.
  • Limit clients/household visits to once a week.
  • Limit clients/households to one bag per visit.

These changes may take place on Monday, Aug. 25, the start of the fall 2025 semester.

What can you do? Consider donating money to the Bruin Community Pantry. Also, when you are shopping, please consider purchasing discounted food items to donate.

Our biggest needs at this time are:

  • Any kind of meat
  • Cold cereal
  • Canned meals (pasta, stew, chili)
  • SPAM
  • Bread
  • Soups
  • Boxed meals

Please contact Jere Witherspoon at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

Be mindful of work zones while making your way around campus

Monday, June 16th, 2025

Our campus is buzzing with activity as we tackle several important projects. For your safety and the efficiency of our operations, please be aware of and stay away from all marked work areas.

It is vital to give our crews and equipment plenty of room. Operators of large machinery may not always see pedestrians, and even your presence nearby can be a significant distraction, potentially leading to accidents. Do not enter or cross through active work zones, and please refrain from interrupting the crews.

For any inquiries about the work, the plant services office is ready to assist at 503-554-2010. Your understanding and cooperation in respecting these safety guidelines are greatly appreciated.
